...and it really has nothing to do with Alabama.

"Why aren't there more young women of color playing college softball?" As we all know by watching women's basketball and track, there are very able black female athletes, and I'm just wondering why they are underrepresented in softball. Anyone? :ear

I normally love sparring with you, but this is the third rail of sports threads.

    There's a professional women's basketball league.
IF your best sport is basketball, what sport will you play in college?

    On the other hand...

    Roll Tide.

I had no intention of sparing, just asking a question. I also doubt that having a women's pro BB league influences any sports decision for women. I'm just curious, as I know that there have been some outstanding players, just not that many of them.

It could be a couple of things, I guess.
The cultural preference for a certain sport by young women.
The lack of baseball facilities in neighborhoods.
The different costs of equipment supplies of the two sports.
If it was racism, I think it would have made the news by now.

Look at the decline of African American participation in Baseball compared to the 70's and 80's. For I'm sure a myriad of reasons the diamond sports aren't as popular with African Americans. :dunno

#2 Ranked UCLA (play in Jackie Robinson Stadium)

    It's the admissions office's fault.

    Alabama, the state--26% African-American
    Alabama, the university--13% African-American

I don't think admission offices have anything to do with that.
Alabama has almost a dozen public and private black colleges
that probably come close to accounting for that 13% discrepancy.

It would seem that actually being number one would make a bump worthwhile. :nod

FWIW - I can see it happening but they've got 2 games to win before in can or should happen. :deal

I had no idea that you went to the University of Alabama.
    Did you graduate? :ear
