Looks so much nicer with snow on top of the peaks! Well, next time ... Thank you for reminding me of this spectecular place. Dirk
It hasn't rained for a while now but it had rained, sometimes furiously, over the winter. Some of the tracks we used to tootle along at a fair old lick had been washed away but that didn't deter Mehmet and Zeki A couple of hours of huffing, puffing and stone bashing generates a decent appetite so it was out with the grub Fresh peppers and tomatoes, free range eggs, olives, goats cheese and bread. Zeki may be a tad on the thin side but boy can he eat! I settled for a sweet pepper while there was still one left Bellies filled, partly, it was off again but not long before Mehmet was performing major arterial surgery ably assisted by Adnan:eek1 The oil pipe from the oil tank to the crankcase on my TT had blown and was spewing oil all over the place. Mehmet cut the tube and inserted a length of petrol piping in the damaged tube and zip tied the repair. He asked for a swab to staunch the flow of black blood Though Zeki seemed a bit concerned over the hygiene arrangements Repair completed Mehmet found a goat track to test the fix. I was appreciably less laid back than some of the others when faced with this prospect But Mehmet was determined to record the proceedings with his home made helmet cam:eek1 What followed was a lot more huffing and pushing where I very nearly lost the will to live, realised I was getting too old for this nonsense and a resolution to stick to the more scenic routes in future. Though lunch was good and I did manage to witness a cracking "in the field" repair. One which got me and the bike home without either of us completely siezing up Cheers, Dickyb
Kimangao has been up to his stuff Link here http://www.motorradonline.de/de/hef...au/unterwegs-die-tuerkische-westkueste/295559 Thanks Dirk for a great article and for publicising this special place. Cheers, Dickyb
I don't know if you read German but you ARE famous, the stroy is all there. Your copy went into the mail today.
"I don't know if you read German" Hi Strommer. I've picked up some useful German vacabulary along the way such as "Achtung bahnhofen" (action stations) and "Es ist eine blond polizei Herr Burghermeister!" (It's a fair cop guv'nor!) but I'd probably struggle with War and Peace in German "Your copy went into the mail today" Thank you very much, Do you want it back after I've done a critique on Dirk's photos? Cheers, dickyb
Hi mate, In northern Italy........... wishing we were back with you guys. The offer still stands so don't feel the need to ask just tell us when your on your way Hope Juliet is well and her cooking keeping the TT pre-load in check! Check out the stuffing ball! P&C xxxxxxx Oh yeah, Caf has just realised she's left a pair of combat trousers somewhere, George not hot footing around in a pair of black O'Neal baggies is he?
You are welcome, it is yours to keep. I understand Dirk will be in Turkey soon -- I guess we'll have something published again ???
Dicky, I know it's a long shot, but you have the same forum name as someone I used to know Do you happen to know a Clive Brookbanks, used to run NSM? If you do you're the Dicky I know, but obviously I am not Clive he was a mutual aque...someone we both used to know! -ninja edit, this is my first post??? Could have sworn I did a hello in 2009 ah well, shall have to fix that!
Turning warm around these parts but the roads are still quiet Now I'd never thought how a chip must feel sizzling about in all that oil. Now I have an idea. You see May is the time for oil wrestling:eek1. The idea is that you blather yourself in sunflower, olive, or maybe even used engine oil. Don a pair of oil soaked tight leather pants and roll around in some itch inducing straw. You don't do this alone, however:huh You are given a partner of roughly the same height and weight to do battle with. I'm not sure of the rules but it all seemed a bit gladitorial. They start 'em young around here Then they get bigger Then the menfolk have a go I was losing moisture rapidly just sitting down. They breed them tough around here It's camel wrestling next. I kid you not!! Cheers, Dickyb
You guys rock on the terrain again. Adding a bit piccy information about the customs and traditions, it now becomes a Turkish Delight report. Take care you all!
Burkhard and Sep are both in town. Better go for a bi-cultural ride then. First Burkhard had a screw loose (I'm not the first one to point that out) so it was a quick "Hi" to Mehmet who found an M6 bolt to hold Burkhards's bike together Then it was off along the coast to Gagai near Mavikent for a bit of relaxation Oh bliss. What could possibly go wrong? Nothing just yet as we tootle up to Kadir's tree houses near Olympos. This place is apparently world famous. I'd never been and I was keen to see the place. I wasn't dissappointed .....................................
........................ It couldn't last. Burkhard had one of his very good ideas. "I av a veery gut offroad weg zum Tekirova von 'ere" he said in his best Turkish accent. Then all hell broke loose, or at least my panniers, dental fillings and anything that wasn't strapped down did. Here's Sep doing a very good job of keeping his modified R60 Beemer upright The "road" consited mostly of soft stone and dry clay which would crumble as you went over it threatening imminent front end wash-outs and offering little in the way of grip. This nonsense went on for two hours and 20 km's up and down and down and up. The temp was up in the 30's and my radiator fan fuse had blown so things were beginning to get quite heated Look, here's the mad German off to seek out more thrills:eek1 Eventually we made it to a secluded cove. As I looked around I found I had been deserted Seems as though Burkhard had heard my "when we get to a nice quiet spot I'll DROWN THE BAS...D!" mutterings and had decided to do a runner along with Sep After feeling quite chilled by being pleasantly chilled by the cool water I decided to let bygones be bygones, grit my teeth and get on with it. This calm state of mind lasted until we reached the track as another hour of pleasure commenced. "Come back here you Frankfurter munching thingemejig, you!!!!!!!!!!" And to cap it all he said "Vy do you zink zat I rite my xt600 und not meine XT660R like you". Crafty bugger, no wonder we can't beat 'em at football ................................
.........................Back once again on the main roads and it was time to fill up and admire Sep's off road weapon Then a blast through the rush hour traffic in Antalya, out the other end and a mindless trip past the thousands off billboards that line the route to Manavgat. We turned off at the sign for Koprulu Kanyon where I next saw Burkhard and Sep trying to talk down a jumper:huh Now apparently Carlos had fallen on hard times and decided to end it all:eek1 He sported the maniacal grin of one at peace with himself and the world and before we knew it he was off visiting his maker Hey that's not meant to happen said I as Carlos surfaced and started swimming towards the river bank. Turns out that Burkhard had bunged him twenty lira to jump off Leaving the two nutters to their pranks I toddled off to take a piccie or two of what this place is famous for, bridges. Kopru means bridge. Hopefully nobody would be jumping off these. .................
.....................Then it was time to rest our weary heads. More by good luck than good management we found the only rafting centre/camping ground/ retaurant that was open. After a fish supper the cares (what cares?) of the day were washed away with a couple of Efes and the gentle lapping of the river against our sleeping quarters You can just imagine the mischief going through this man's mind ...............................
.....................The next day rose brighter than I did after a nights dreaming of being washed away, being eaten by non existant sharks and playing cards on the river bed with the trout I had wolfed down the night before:huh. Good stuff that Efes beer. Whilst I searched for breakfast some of the locals were having theirs while some youngsters had a scrap Today we were off to play in the Dedegol mountains. We were in paradise. Breathtaking views from high passes, fertile fields, friendly folk, prosperous villages and no other vehicles on the roads. Sep trying to take it all in After six hours of bliss it was time to wind open the throttle and head back for Kas. Though we did manage to visit the Candir reservoir on the way home Cheers, Dickyb
Damned. And I'm stuck at work under heavy loads..... Even worst ! I'll be in the company HQs next week.... town of the infamous 1st magic roundabout ! yes, England..... call me looser. While you are having tons of fun out there and Dirkos and his mates are approaching Greece while sending me SMS telling me how great life is.....:huh I may have offended God/Allah in some ways, that's for sure ! Viel Spass, as they say. /thierry
