Humph. That's why people invented knobbies! No riding for me today. Rode mtn bike at CAMBO yesterday, then hared the hash today. Little bit of running. Lots of walking. Everyone had a good time in the woods. That's what its all about. People having a good time. M
My plan for the families short holiday to the desert was to haul my bicycle along. My first indication that this was likely not going to work was my early morning errand run with the rack in place. Yow! hideous noise, I was not about to want to deal with for the hours it was going to take to get over the river and through the desert to Grandmother house. Then when I got back to the house on the hill to ind the front hall filled with what I figured was a good bit more than I figured would fit in the car. I eliminated the biking gear, rack, and tools which as it turned out would never have fit. Ah, well. Maybe I'll get a run or two and a hike? When I get back home I'll give the bike a wash and hit some seat time. Then truck the beast to Phoenix. The new hotel and I will fit the bike in much easier. Heck I even found my lights.
My legs hated me this AM. Between mtn biking Sat, hashing/running yesterday, and UW Hockey. they really protested being part of this union this AM. ...so I said 'eff you! I'm going for a ride before the weather gets here.' I got about halfway thru the ride when it started snowing on me. Much mo bettah than raining on me! Legs feel better now. M
Got in 9.8 miles of single track yesterday in the fog. Almost got taken out by a downed tree across the trail in a blind corner. Screeched to a halt, bumped into it, and hiss... burped the front tire.:eek1 Pumped it up and spent the next 20 minutes muscling the tree out of the way, since it was in a very dangerous spot. The best part of the ride was I stayed in front of little brother and dropped him a few times. That has never happened before as he is quite the accomplished racer. Goal accomplished.
Really foggy out this AM. Last time it did this, it was foggy all day. For your watching enjoyment: <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/CI7T2iuGjjc?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> M
Today I realized my dream of breaking the six minute barrier by turning in a fast lap of 5:59 at my favorite local mountain bike trail. Only five months ago, I would have considered it impossible. Now my name occupies a place on the leader board inhabited only by the Strava gods.
I just test rode a Pugsley Neck Romancer. I have never thrown a leg over anything like that. The studs on the tires combined with the ponderous, inevitable track it carves combine to make it feel like you're pedaling a tank. I have never met a bicycle before, however, that would eat a Baltimore curb without blinking like the Neck Romancer. Grins per minute factor was high.
Did it have studded fatties??? I bought an original Pugs. Bought a Necro and sold the Pugs to my brother. Bought a Moonlander with 100mm rims and 4.7" tires and sold the Necro. Fatties are like pedaling around with two flats while dragging a cinder block behind you. It's one hell of a workout. I can't wait for some snow.
I believe it did, in fact, have studded fatties. I didn't think it was like pedaling two flats & a cinder block. I thought the ride was pretty comfy - I didn't spend nearly the time choosing a line and going around anything as I would on any other bike. I just rode right over anything & everything. I'd say the workout was different. I liked it. Not '$2k new' liked it, but maybe 'a few hunnert $' used liked it.
I'm into my Moonlander for $2,000. I sold the other 2 for for exactly what I paid for them so I sorta worked my way up to that $2,000. Cheapest was my used Pugs for $1,250 so I think you'll be somewhere between $2,000 and a few hundo. Did you try any single track on it? That's what I was referring to with the workout comment. It's WAY more work in the woods compared to my Giant Anthem X 29er (or any of my other bikes).
