Anyone have a cost effective solution for a CB comm system? I dont't have a need for rider to rider comms but would like to hear the chatter of truckers etc while on the road. Looking out for dangerous traffic conditions, etc. Where can I find used JMCB's if possible.
Maybe you could put a Want To Buy (WTB) listing in the Flea Market, Gear area since you want seem to want to buy a JMCB? Just go to the Flea Market section, Gear section and start a new thread. Do you need help doing that? Just ask and someone will help you. If you are asking for advice on which CB to get, I'm sure someone will chime in here on their experience. Finally, and maybe to the point, I have experience with the Midland portable CB (This one: http://www.radioshack.com/product/i...source=PG&utm_campaign=product&utm_medium=CSE). It was great for listening to truckers talk about crap, but I was unable to transmit more than five feet, given the non existent ground plane of the BMW LT. Someone who wanted to spend some time getting the antenna situation right could probably improve that to a few more yards......good luck.
The Midland 75-822 in the cheapest way to get into a CB com setup on a bike. Get a good external antenna (FireStik) and a headset from MotoComm, a mount from mountguys and your done. The JMCB is a nice setup but is rather expensive but does offer dual headsets, built in MP3 input, etc.

Not so much CB related, but I am assembling my comm system... Rugged Radios MC-Basic headset yaesu vx7r ( 440mhz, 2m, 6m ) I'm sure you could rig in a handheld CB if you wanted, but I dont know why you would want to.
I'm a driver, CB's USED to be a great tool of the trade, you could get information/help if needed. Not so much anymore. Now days it's more about who can run the biggest linear and use the foulest language. It gets old fast. Oh yeah, I hope you speak and understand spanish too.
Fact. i got a CB in my FJ. It's just redneck swearing, blasted loudly, but not clear, and espanol all over the 'emergency' channels. I leave mine off unless I'm on the trail with another vehicle with a radio.
Your very welcome......... let me add that if you want to use a CB for say bike to bike comms, they work great for that. When I did my Iron Butt ride, I rode with a buddy, we both rode GoldWings with CB's, it made a world of difference to be able to communicate about everything, and just to BS and pass the time/miles. Find a clear channel, usually way up high and use it that way. That, and since CB's aren't as popular as they once were, the price and the sizes have come down a lot. Good luck.
To get good results with a CB on a bike, be sure to get a No Ground Plane antenna - Firestick is the one I use - and get the SWR set properly. Then try and find an empty channel, which is sometimes a real problem.
