The mirror breaking off after a few drops and a final snag on a weak plastic tarp doesn't seem like a feature. The way that diameter reduction was machined means that it's going to break even without a collision. I think I'll dummy cord the mirrors to the bars just in case the other one falls off while I'm riding. I've been very happy with these mirrors and the repair once they fail isn't really a big deal when you're close to home. Dealing with it in the field would be a good reason to carry a spare base I suppose.
I ride with these mirrors everyday for some ~4 years..... Here in Californicus, traffic splitting is the way and folding the mirrors in and out. No issues to report, I broke 2 mirrors on two accidents. There was no way they could have survived the accidents. Neither did I.... If you need a replacement base, send me an email I offer them to my customers. hb7@ca.rr.com
Look back at page 22 post 327. You can replace the broken elbow joint by putting a RAM ball on the mirror stem, then you end up with a "double take" like set up.
"Long or Short"? Is the 243mm long enough for most riders, or is the 280mm better? I had a DRZ400 and couldn't see behind myself with the stock mirrors because they were so short. Now I need mirrors for my 08' WR450. I don't want then so long that they look strange, but I do want them to be long enough to work well. How do I decide which I need? What size do most folks order? thanks,
this is regarding all "horizontal length from the center of the elbow" : 280mm is my choice and I'm 6ft.... 243mm is the stock KTM length. This is adequate....but the 280mm is better for the road. or the KTM adjustable stem types and then you can never not have enough mirror. 225-325mm adjustment. For the WR450 order the universal mounts and it's bolt on ready for Yamaha http://www.moto-science.com/product/ktm-folding-mirror-280mm-universalyamahaducati-mounts-5587u http://www.moto-science.com/product/ktm-oem-folding-mirror-243mm-universalyamahaducati-mount-0097u http://www.moto-science.com/product/ducati-folding-mirrors-225-325mm-adj-stems-pair http://www.moto-science.com/product...5-325mm-adj-stem-univyamahaducati-mount-6804u Thank you.... Just placed my order for a set of these. Looking forward to seeing how they work on my KTM 690. Anything has got to be better than the factory ones.
Could you sell the little clamps seperate as well? I've lost one of my 10mm ones. Now that I ditched my beemer I don't need the 8 mm, I need the old 10mm back. Just can't find it.
I need 2 pair (2 rights and 2 lefts) of the KTM Folding mirrors OEM in 243mm stem length size with 10mm x 1.25mm mounts. They will be used on a 2007 KTM 990S and a 2009 KTM 690R Email sent Jim
