I just don't believe that blind spots can be completely eliminated. Virtually or otherwise. And to suggest that they can will only lead to complacency. Which only leads to more accidents.

Situational awareness involves a lot more than looking in our mirrors. I'm sure you agree with that.

I think that most people, if they have driven autos, and have ridden motorcycles, knows how to operate with awareness of their surroundings. Some threads are just good platforms for individuals to show how superior they are. This has become an oil thread.

I always fill my mirrors with 20-50 mirror oil in summer, and 0-20 mirror oil in winter. This way they turn more easily when I want to adjust them, plus it takes care of summer blind spots versus winter blind spots.

Lol Is it synthetic? What do you use for blinker fluid?

That's something that we were taught to do in drivers-ed...check the blind spot.

I do it more and better now, than before I rode motorcycles.

My new Ford Explorer has side mirrors with blind spot secondary mirrors in the upper-outer corners. They seem to work well, but I still shoulder check as I did before. I also avoid driving in someone's blind spot for any longer than I have to. If I can't see the driver's face in his side mirror I know I'm in his blind spot, bad place to be.

Us old guys can't be doin the head check all willy nilly. I might get a crick and then I'm stuck twisted for days!!!

Mirrors are only for determining whether it's worth your time to actually look. IOWs, yeah.

I left/center/right check intersections on my way through. It's a habit I developed while riding. I do it whether coming off of a red light, or if it's green before I get there.

I did that while taking my wife to the hospital to have our son. Rolled up to an intersection with a red. Waited. The light for us turned green, I did a left/center/right check before I entered the intersection.

Some ass ran his red light, and skidded to a stop right where we would have been had I not checked.

Best habit ever...... Would hate to catch a fellow rider.......

can you tell me which areas of the country don't make checking your blind spots part of driver training so I can avoid them like the plague?

Florida has GOT to be one. The drivers here are completely clueless...and, no, it aint just the old people and the tourists.
