Went down to the shop on the outfit and bought a pie for lunch. It pulls right a bit. Not surprising as the wheel alignment was done via eyeometer. Cheers Bruce
More pics. The sleeves on the lower mounts will be replaced with some that are 25mm/1" To space the chair away from the bike a bit and to stop the lower connections from bending.` Loctite. Good stuff.
You talked about it pulling to the right !!,NOW add the heavy car on that side and you know what I was faced with !!.
Yeah NWR but you forget that over here they are supposed to pull left... Took it to the auto electrician today for some modern lighting on the chair but the ran out of day just as I did. So back tomorrow again. They had some cool little L.E.D. indicators though that only show when they flash pretty much. Only days to the easter get away now. Will it be ready??? this is my challenge. oops back to the shed. Oh yeah They really dont want to turn towards the chair that hard do they???
You sidecar is looking great Bruce Does you bike pull to the sidecar as hard as the st1100 did ? I still have not adjusted the lean out on her sidecar . Wife still thinks your sidecar body type would be great on our gsa . She is going a bit soft on me. Or it might be her sidecar is better than mine Cheers Ian
After LOTS of messin with mine I got it to go pretty straight at 70 - 80 mph !!.Now when my new springs get here in a week or so I have to start all over again !!:eek1
Your sidecar is looking great Bruce..... Does you bike pull to the sidecar as hard as the st1100 did ?.... Mine pulled right real bad 1st up And after I had a moment or two flat out in 3rd gear where she really wanted to clear light poles off the verge instead of slowing for a rapidly aproaching sharp right. Took all my strength to keep it straight under brakes. I still have not adjusted the lean out on her sidecar . ..... As you can imagine I have though it still pulls a bit. I have now adjusted it so it runs straight under steady power but wants right under brakes Wife still thinks your sidecar body type would be great on our gsa ..... She is going a bit soft on me. Or it might be her sidecar is better than mine .... I would need to test yours to see . Cheers A little indicator light on the front of the chair and a power outlet on the seat. A little indicator on the rear of the guard. Not sure about how it sits though. Cut the thread on some of the fittings for more adjustment so as to make up for the saggy rear spring. Also drilled another hole in the mounting bracket a bit higher for the same purpose. Took the boss for a spin this morning. Boy 130kg makes a huge difference. :eek1 He did not fit that well either He also has kept me to busy to take the outfit over the pits so I may not be going away with it over easter .
Realised I had a founales air shock that I bought on ebay a few years ago just sitting there. Dragged it out and even though it is of a BMW GS1150 it looks like it will go on the Wee without to much trouble. I dont have the airpump for it though I belive a high pressure bicycle pump will do it. Does anyone know what pressures are involved here? The bicyle pump is good I believe for 30 Bar but some Fournales air shocks require up to 60 Bar and need the pricey Fournales pump. This shock would be great with the chair being easy to remove just adjust pressure to suit it on or of the bike. Took a photo of it all pretty and new looking but cant find the camera lead at the mo. Any Clues here? Cheers Bruce
Good to see you have it together Bruce !!!! I haven't started on mine yet It will be going up to Phill Duffy's place after the Delegate get together mid this month for him to have a good look at it.
Hi Norwest the Venture Royal must have air over coil spring. The Fournales shock is air pressure only no spring. Makes them smooth and progressive in their action. I had some S&W air shocks decades ago and really enjoyed the ride and the control they gave over the standard shock. Brendan it must be nice to have an expert on hand... I had to wing it the whole way. But yours probably will get sorted 1st. Cheers Bruce.
I have 2 airshocks of a Kawasaki 550 that I was going to use on the car ( 1 anyway ) but it was to stiff without air!!.
Been riding solo this week. The bike without the chair. Quite tidy still I think. Turns left and! right real easy for now. Stops good as well. But falls over when not held up at stand still. Inherently unstable. Oh and lane splits good. Work is busy at the Mo and will take me away again soon but hope to fit the Airshock on the rear and get a mechanical park brake to satisfy the powers that be then of for the inspection. Cheers Bruce
Pulled the spring from mine just as Brendan got his and did the same. Wondering if I can get a different spring made to increase the amount of rotation available http://www.ac-parts.co.uk/utilities/torsionbars.html Brendan found this (thanks mmate) But I still think longer is required for increased rotation. As a spring has only a certain amount of give built into it. For example if it was half the length it would only have half the twist available before becoming over stressed. Of course one thing is, what quality steel do the Changs have? Did your parts come from the same factory as mine etc. They look the same. This turned up yesterday A bicycle shock pump. The guage reads to 550psi :eek1 I put it on my Fournales air shock that has been sitting around for literal years and it still had 350psi in it. Cool. So it doesnt seem to leak. Pumped it up to 500psi. Hope I don't hear a bang in the middle of the night . Pleased with this purchase even if it had to come from England on the far side of the planet from here. :huh I understand the hose can give way but a good I hope plan is to get a better one from a scuba store? Any hints here? This is something I bid on and won but not sure if it will work out as planned. I had in mind to mount the Gocart cable operated brake on the chair so as to have a mechanical brake to show the license people. It looks a bit bulky at 1st but will try later in the week. Needs cables and probably pads but they may get it over the pits and a pass. The hydraulic set is a Nissan 5/8 master cyclinder set for cable operation and a single piston caliper. They may do with a tidy and sevice with new hoses and cables. I thought the gokart peddles would mount on the chair frame. Lets see now, the hydraulic linked to the bike rear brake and the mechanical set up as an independant park come steer towards the chair brake. Could be viable.
Went and saw the local spring maker today regarding a new torsion spring for the chair. I was hoping for more suspension travel via a longer spring and perhaps better material. The man with more life experience than I (who rides motorbikes as well) Basicly said if you want increased rotation to give more travel and I want 3 times the travel (from 50mm to 150mm) then you need a spring 3 times as long or 6 ft. Or a smaller spring dia. So it looks like I will try fitting the Fournales to the Suzuki for the extra load capacity and put the Suzuki shock on the chair. It would be a better match for the chair I should think. Be nice to just buy Fournales shocks for the smooth air ride but not just yet. This weekend looks a write of so may try to fit the airshock to the bike next week. If I can fit the gokart caliper on somewhere then I should be able to put it through the rego people. Cheers Bruce
