We woke up to wet roads. It had rained most the night and after navigating the in-town water crossings looking for breakfast on a Sunday morning in the sleepy little one hotel town, with two restaurants and no gringos we had to settle on a convenience store breakfast. On our way out of town it was almost impossible keeping our ass end behind our front on account of the mud. Mark did one of the nicest FMX style whips I’ve seen without even leaving the ground. After grubbing down on our bananas and various fruit bars with a nice view of the desert just out of town we headed back out for a lot of beach.

    <a href="http://s1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff439/Z_HARSH/Baja%202010/?action=view&current=P1010692.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff439/Z_HARSH/Baja%202010/P1010692.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

At one point it looked like some fishermen were trying to homestead along the beach by putting up miles of fence and little palapas every so often. Larry didn’t think there has been any homesteading in Mexico for a long time, but nonetheless, they had a lot of supplies hauled out to the middle of nowhere.

Before long we were in the Junk Yard of the Pacific, Malarrimo Beach. We checked out the various junk, odd toys, and bits of rope, ate some peanut butter and honey tortillas and made way inland.

    <a href="http://s1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff439/Z_HARSH/Baja%202010/?action=view&current=P1010709.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff439/Z_HARSH/Baja%202010/P1010709.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

(oh yea, after my lonely ride over to Bay of LA I forgot to unplug my headlight before I attached my gas can and ended up cracking my headlight lens, let me know if anyone has a stock one laying around for sale)

We then passed by the little salt flats.

    <a href="http://s1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff439/Z_HARSH/Baja%202010/?action=view&current=P1010711.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff439/Z_HARSH/Baja%202010/P1010711.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

After a bit of slab we were checking out the lodging in the working class town of Vizcaino and decided not to stay at the one next to the bus stop.

There are a couple of tracks you rode that we unhappily passed on the last 2 trips. Nothing more than altering loop travel in an effort not to backtrack.I am hoping to complete those this time. Thanks for the report, really makes me "jones" that much more for BAJA. We were there in March also, just 3 of us. Riding in Baja is always been the most meaningful ride of the year for me. Year after year they only get better. I look forward to reading the rest of your report & keep the pics coming. Thanks, Joe

TemeculaRider – here is a bit more for you Sir.

Jwats – thanks, have a good trip maybe we will see you out there, I know how you feel though this is giving me the Baja itch pretty badly too.

Here comes a bit more for your Friday enjoyment.

We had another excellent huevos rancheros breakfast we set out and after running into a few locked fences and some hunting and pecking to find the right road we headed back to Bahia de Los Angeles on mostly 2-track.

We got the chance to ride another one of Bill’s little known jewels back to the Bay and jumped at the opportunity, by this time we were all ready to get off the 2-track and get back to the technical riding.

We checked into Larry and Raquel’s after another a decent 200+ mile day just before the 3 Canucks we met a few days before and chatted about the good old days and other Baja lore with Larry. Then hit the hay early because we knew the next day was going to be good.

I also took a bunch of pics of the bay, hope you don’t mind:

    srad600 – Thanks for reading!

Wes Weber – Wes, how’s it going, hope all is well with the family! Sorry we missed you guys his summer, but I assume you have seen George’s emails and know the plan for this year south of the boarder :evil :evil

MotoMike – Yea, so, you could probably find most of Days 3 and 4 on the maps, the Green Door is pretty well known and if you wanted to, I’m sure you could find the Rock Trail…if you’re into that kind of thing. The route on Day 5 was mostly beach riding and bushwhacking cross-country, and Day 6 would be tough too. I think we were using the Baja Expeditionary Maps on the Garmin, but on this trip we kind of tried to get off the little red squiggly lines it shows, if you know what I mean. Sorry I can’t be of much help.

TemeculaRider – Thanks for the input!

I still have a bit of work to do on the next installment; I’ll try to get it out in the next few days.

Great pics and outback areas most don't get to see because they are focused on San Felipe to Coco's....:evil

Two bummer things about beach riding:
    1) salty water and salty sand wrecks metal and finish to rims, spokes, and ALL other metals cannot be restored....even if you rinse the bike off with fresh water at the end of the day;

    2) It's illegal to operate vehicles on beaches.... (really, but few people observe that law:deal)

It breaks my heart to see them pave roads like the one up to San Javier:cry

I wonder what that's going to do to San Javier? I have mixed feelings about it I guess. Nice that more people will get to see the mission as it's my favorite in Baja, with no close second!

Sorry ‘bout my last post, guess I kinda got excited, and apparently I’m not too good at proof reading either.

motoged – Thanks for joining! As for abrasive salt water, sure I hear you; it helps to not ride in the super wet section at the bottom. I’ve been down there several times on my ol’ 2001 and had a few little topical rust spots on the bottom of my frame where it contacts my skid-plate that easily sanded off and with a little paint it looks like new again. Honestly, I can’t say I have ever spent much time shining my spokes though. In the end I guess it is just a sacrifice I am willing to take, I suppose it is another reason I don’t lust after a shiny pumpkin, not that there is anything wrong with that of course. As for the legality of beach riding, all I know is the Federalis don’t seem to care much; I guess they must have bigger things to worry about. With all due respect, if it is legal in Alaska it is kind of hard to believe it is illegal in Mexico, but who knows. On the plus side of more slab, there will be more gas stations!

TemeculaRider – definitely looking forward to going to San Javier one day, thanks again!

    Humunn – Thanks a million!

globalpilot4 – “Cannot wait to get back down to baja!!” - couldn’t have said it better myself, thanks for reading

I decided to split the next day into two parts, here goes part one……

We woke up early again; I think I saw more sunrises on this tip than I have in years, if not ever.

And one of the alpenglow (learned that one in Alaska)

After another of Ruth’s excellent meals we headed out for more of what we came for….single-line. Probably the best consecutive 75 miles on two wheels of my entire life were to follow……

    <a href="http://s1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff439/Z_HARSH/Baja%202010/?action=view&amp;current=P1010790.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i1235.photobucket.com/albums/ff439/Z_HARSH/Baja%202010/P1010790.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

We passed by a smuggler’s beach, as the story goes the crew came up here one time and there were a bunch of guys in black suits driving black cars with blacked out windows….in the middle of absolutely nowhere just standing around….needless to say no one stuck around to chat. No such excitement this time, just emptiness.

Then we started up, or down rather, what we had marked as One Way Hill Trail, or that is what our buddy had it marked as after they put it in the year before, but I’m sure it has another name, not that it matters. I wouldn’t say the name is completely true, but your gunna need good tires and your A Game if you’re going up it.

Lots of dodging the cacti and in and out of washes.....good stuff!

We were just so lucky with this trip. With all the storms that came through the month before the desert was alive. I could probably come back every year for my entire live and never see it this colorful again. I guess that is the beauty of Baja, every time it is different.
