I am in. I have never worked Indy, but I have worked the MotoGP at Laguna Seca since 2007, and am working it this year. I have only been to Indianapolis once, just going through on the 2005 Iron Butt Rally. I have reservations at the Comfort Inn in Brownsburg, which is where USAC had a block of rooms. Any local information would be great, like; should I rent a car and park at the track, or take a cab, or.....? Should I bring a cooler? Chair? I am flying in, so I am limited on what I can bring with me. Any help would be appreciated. Tom
You definitely want your cooler and your chair. Maybe something to make some shade for you between sessions. Some stations are near the inside wall on the big oval. Decent shade there. Some stations not so much. It's hot in Indy in August. Couldnt say about the rental car vs taxi. They provide parking not far from the gate where they had us meet each morning.
I can't believe I missed this when it was originally posted! So bummed, I have wanted to do this for quite a while. Maybe next year.
Fattires, I wouldnt call it missed yet. A bunch of us applied last year in July and wound up at the race. If you want to do this, get over to that website and get an app in. It's a hoot! And you can't buy a closer seat to the race.
Yep I applied last year in July too and got in, if in doubt send an application and/or call in and see what happens. Can't lose with it. Also coming in this year
Package of flag instructions, parking map, and a video arrived yesterday. Studying up and counting down to Indy!
...and I'm hoping there still might be a slot. Thanks Ken for setting this up. My wife is tired of going to Indy MotoGP what with the hurricane and then the heat, and jammed hotels. Thought I might ride the 950 / camp instead of loading up the van and hoteling it. Hope to see fellow ADVriders and 950 drivers. Cheers! Anyone planning on going to the track walk on Thursday? Last year while on the walk Nicky was out riding his scooter around the track, pretty cool!
I'm doing it, also great way to pop into to paddock area and pit lane to watch teams set up their bikes.
Details yet to come, but where are the ADVriders / workers camping? Anticipate arriving thursday, need to look at worker schedule. Yes I need to search the forum, for logistics, parking, camping etc. but trying to make it simple. Cheers! Steve St. Louis
I know steverino is camping. Maybe turder too. Might try to get in touch with them. We are camping at the ramada again. Looking forward to getting back to the track!
Don't despair just yet. The volunteers are run by more volunteers. Those folks pretty much pull this thing together around their regular jobs. Seems like last year there was a real flurry of last minute phone calls and emails getting things set for the race.
Yuuup I'm camping too. Hope to see folks from last year too at the campsite. It's easy to find others as there isn't that much other people on Thursday night and the campsite isn't that huge.
