Dimming will make it much nicer to others on the road. Just make sure whatever dimmer you use it can dim low enough, ours will dim the lights to off with 256 increments.
Quick question. Do these need to be mounted at a 90 degree angle? I.E. do they need to be "straight down" or "straight out" to the side relative to the road or does that matter? If I do a high fairing mount I may need to go at an odd angle like 40 degrees or so from the brackets.
I was going to puta resistor to the low beam switch... I have a bunch of xml flashlights, they arent too bad for road use
[/QUOTE] Do you still have your brackets for the reflectors that were mounted on your forks? Looking at my WRX that will be a perfect place to mount the lights when I order some more. A picture of the reflector brackets is in this post, hanging off the lower triple clamp bolts; http://www.advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=16751304&postcount=24242 I have the lights mounted on my Adventure now and they sure do light up the back of the garage door but it is too snowy and cold here for a test drive. Cheers
Hey guys. I'm on a budget and looking for an older model 30 used from someone who has upgraded to one of these new retina wreckers. If anyone has a good deal on an older one with sitch (or not) PM me please. I'm gonna run it on my right mirror stalk on my SV650 to help spot deer eyes off to the side of the road a bit. Thanks!
Not required to mount at 90 degrees. The flat mount uses a single stud that you can rotate the light about and the mount has a hinge that can be adjusted. If you have a pic of where you are considering for a mount location, we can let you know if it will work.
I've just installed the model 60 and it's bright like crazy (don't look at it without the LED's being dimmed...it still hurts...) The 60 is by far the brightest, although not sure if upgrading from the "44" realy makes more light, I was only curious and also supporting John who does a great job with excellent service. Maybe the "60" uses genuine Cree LED's so this could be good.
Just a hypothetical question here. But is there a warranty or replacement parts available in the all too likely event that I break one of your lights somehow? BTW I placed an order for a 60 and im not sure the coupon went through. It seemed like it though. 100+hd upgrade. The coupon box disappeared and nothing said it applied. The 30s are retina wreckers too. I hooked one up to a battery to check it and it lit up the neighbors house like day from about 100 yards off. Very focused beam, but still impressive.
Basically about even with the headlights mounted to the fairing itself with some reinforcement on the back side of the fairing. it's no a 90 degree angle probably around 70 but just a guess Sent from my iPhone
"44" close up, unfortunately ISO1250 so not clear: "60" close up ISO200. Looks to me there is more "juice" in this:
Those angles should not be a problem. However I do not recommend mounting the lights directly on the fairing, it may look stable, even with a full backing plate, it will eventually crack or damage your fairing. What year and model of bike is it? I'll take a look and recommend some alternative mounting spots.
It's a 2007 Yamaha FZ6. I'd like to mount the lights high either even with or higher than the headlights. Another option I was thinking of was using a set of mirror mounts that sandwich between the mirrors and mounts for the mirrors. I used to have a similar setup on my FJR pictured below.
Guys - I hope you can help me trouble shoot a problem I have. I just installed 2 Model 60 LED and a Wireless LED Dimmer with High Beam Bypass on an '08 BMW K12GT. With the bike off the lights turn on and off without any problems, but when I trigger the lights off the high beam switch the dimmer box starts to buzz loudly. I assume it is the relay in the box making the racket. Guidance is appreciated--thx. Found it....I just walked back out to the bike and reseated the high beam plug. All is well. It was a basic connectivity problem--sheesh.
