huh? that's got me puzzled.... it isn't the same though.... watched a couple of races - meh. like NASCAR only more boring... I guess I liked it better when it was paying for my lifestyle, now, not so much
I like it more now that the races are on TV. It allows us to see and understand the various strategies and the actions it takes to get the most out of these boats.
One of the Oracle boats tipped over yesterday and before they could right it the tide took it ~4 miles out to sea.
I remember the Kiwi's cheating to try and win it.. but they failed.. still it hasnt been the "same" since the winged keel boats.. but it could be argued that it is better.
I think only fat Dennis believed a plastic boat was "cheating"... I raced on the trial horse, KZ 5, not a bad old bucket... and no worries about dropping pennies in the bilge like the aluminum sisters.
They've started racing in Bermuda. Two days so far. Round robin. Anyone watching? I know nothing about it except what I glean from sitting in front of a TV. Sure looks like New Zealand is a fast boat and really smooth boat handling. USA has a fast boat but sloppier handling, which cost them in their only loss so far.
Care to elucidate. This whole thing has been a cheat fest since day 1. I would argue that we ran the least shonky cup defense in living memory . We got out of jail today against Artemis , not sure I like these cats, spectacular but something is missing .
Yes. The holders have always stacked the odds. That is why it is so hard to win. Oracle are more blatant than most. Coutts may be one of ours but I can't respect him.
How are the odds stacked this time around? Huge break for NZ today. Didn't seem like Sweden's maneuver was different to what we've seen in the previous two days.
Not being a sailor and not having a preconceived idea of what they should be racing in, I think these things are awesome. One fact cannot be denied - the racing is exciting. One race today had maybe ten lead changes. And even a doofus like me can tell that when the hulls touch the water, that's bad. So I'm able to see which crews are better at handling their craft. I think this racing, in the tight confines of the Great Sound, it's an excellent spectator sport.
They sure did fall for it. They admit it. "Team New Zealand's dramatic win over Sweden came through a penalty ruling which America's Cup officials admit they got wrong. Awesome boats, but Oracle (USA) sure has stacked the odds for them, strange that.... Go Team New Zealand!
At one stage i owned a cat and I crewed on a Tornado and it was a real buzz, IMO the real racing is on a mono boat but i realise most people with no idea about sailing thinks it marginally faster then grass growing ed
