Price fuel, tires, meals, and lodging for the Canadian portion of the AlCan Highway and you might rethink that. 1 day and 13 hours for 662 miles is a bit slow.
Morning all. The gimp is feeling good so far. I got to make her breakie to keep her happy. She can't shower for 2 days, and she is less than impressed about my elaborate preparations and accessories assembled for her sponge bath.
A friend of mine made the trip to Prudhoe Bay this summer. Took him 37 days, 10K miles, and $7K, roughly. His only gripe about going through Canada was not being able to bring a sidearm. And lack of cell phone coverage. I'm not sure what a cabin costs on the ferry, but you can pitch a tent on deck. The downside to that is that you can't peg the tent down. The Milepost, a very informative publication is very helpful for making the trip to AK. Dr. Greg Frazier has also written a very good book about his travels up north. Riding to Alaska is the name of his book. Steve, my buddy who went this past summer, rode a 1200GSA up there. He mounted Heidenau K60's on the bike. Ran the front one for the entire trip. Had a rear drop shipped to a shop in Anchorage and had it mounted when he got there. Seems like the largest expense per item/service was for lodging. He did camp some but bears kept him just a bit leery about camping very much. And Cycle World currently has an article about a fella riding a Vespa scooter from FL to AK. That is an adventure for sure!
I have looked at the ferry a couple times. With a suv and a trailer 4 kids and the wife and i it was over $3500.
Alaska Ferry... cabin or deck? http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=463849 Last summer there was a nice article in one of the dual sport rags about a guy who rode thee ferry with his 11 yro boy. The slept on the deck and then rented cabins, in AK. If I find the article, I'll link it. nlp
I picked up a 2009 WR250X(shod with knobbies ), last night, from Dogjaw. Him and his boy Zach had picked it up a few months back but prefer their DR650's. I'll post some pics once the weather clears. I have a very good feeling about this bike... nlp
Couldn't you just cover her leg to above the knee with a plastic garbage bag and clean her with the garden hose on the driveway? Sounds simple to me, but what do I know, I have only been married three times.
