No wrestling then I won't watch,....any of it,... boycott (not that it will matter).

You wrestling fans- "Foxcatcher." Keep an eye out for this movie. They just finished filming here, I was actually an extra in a few very minor scenes. It tells the story of the Schultz brothers and crazy John DuPont. Its from the same folks that made "Moneyball."

This could be in the awesome thread, or here. I chose here.

I think it is absurd that wrestling was chosen to be dropped from the Olympics.

this thread might work, since there's actually some interest, and a lot of the article talks about gable's involvement with trying to get wrestling back...

I think that any sport that has a drug problem should be bounced from the Olympics. Cycling? Buh-bye. Baseball? No way. Weightlifting? See ya. Only sports where the top (x) athletes or top (y) teams do not have any drug problems should be in the Olympics.

That would solve a lot of problems.

I know I was taking the piss out of BigSnowDog (who has 0 sense of humour), but they just dropped wrestling from the Pillion's middle school.

This saddens her and a lot of other teachers because more than any other sport, urban, disenfranchised youths were settled and straightened out by wrestling. They suggested the school drop basketball and keep wrestling.

    True story.

Personally I'd rather watch old women knit tea cozies, but, you know, as a purely individual pursuit I can almost see the appeal.

Wrestling is an individual sport first, team second. It is difficult to be good and requires extreme dedication. It is the original contest of the Greek Olympics. How can they possibly drop it on that basis alone? Hopefully all will be well. There have been squabbles among the ruling elite and the true competitors for some time now. I hope DG can be the ambassador that is needed. Having been fortunate to spend a summer with him, I cannot think of a better person to take this to the test.

Certainly it is not as exciting for the fans unless you are emotionally invested in the competitor (or a wrestler yourself) as hockey is, but that does not make it a bad sport; and I did not have to drive an hour one way for practice. Love it or not it belongs in the Olympics, or there should be no Olympics at all...period.
