Saturday 9-4-2010, we (3 ridez from Phx Az) decided to go on an exploration ride early morning on some diverse rough terrains and try to cover ~ 165 miles of off-rd. Z route planned was to go from Camp Verde then head north of z hwy 260 throu Coconino National Forest to intercept FR3 from z woods. We left Phx @ 5am and on board was a splendid team of let's say DRZ400 RIDEZ. Az4us(Levio) rsquered333(Richard) DR650SEDDY. At z parking lot of Mc'D. Roads strated to changed shape quickly from flat to this as we went in elevation. Richard. Levio. We wrestled our machines for about 10 miles of rocky trails some of which going uphills so we deserve a quick break and it was still 8:30am. We continued on 211 to take 69B for our next stage. Finishing z first stage. Levio & Richard. Startin' new stage . More coming up...
I nice day or riding near happy Jack AZ. This time we found many campers and hunters because of the Labor Day weekend. We hit a lot of rocks and difficult terrain. It was fun ! More pictures:
That where z level of difficulty went up a notch. After a break . on 69B, Richard then Levio. Commencing z Stage. Looks like z Red Planet Entering z first Canyon steep & Rocky . For some reason z rocks moves away from Levio's path & he'll cross it flawlessly . On z second Canyon crossing was even steeper & rockier . Richard going down fast like he missed his dinner Levio follows but he's not as hungry . More downhills . In z river bed .
Good report. I really liked the field with the flowers. Wondering where the tuff stuff is that you talk about. Looks almost big bike friendly on that ride. I'd like to see the route map if you have it on GPS. This is my backyard and am always looking for good trails. Mil T
U should have join us to see z rough stuff. I don't recommend big bike for this type of rides. And those field with z flowers don't let them fool u these are extremly dangerous terrains to cross. Rocks and sharp ones are hidden under these beautiful flowers and grass u can't really see them untill it's too late even with my stabilizer i had crazy head shakes. Less stops more riding z longivity of z ride makes it more difficult as well. For example u must be ready to hit terrain like this after z fact that u already rode an aggraveted trails for over 120 miles (uphill steeper than it appears) .
great lookin' ride, guys! hey, richard, do you want those boots, or should i offer them up to the general public?
My boots are treating me quite well and I best not be greedy so you can find them a home with someone whose footwear needs are wanting.
Btw, great ride. Thanks to Eddy for putting it together. Best part was that there were no major issues and all the bikes and riders got home in good condition.
From Anderson pass we went west on NF125 & took NF740A all z way down to Winona under z power line . Taking a quick break under a shade . Levio moving west on Anderson pass. Don't be fooled by these blooming flower fields, there was hidden rocks (sharp ones)hidden underneath & u can't see them untill it's too late . Super Machines. Starting a descent from z top of z hill . Lookin from z top to our next destination. We still have 17.4 miles of trails like this one or harder to finish StageIII More coming up for StageIII & Stage4
We continued N. our GPD. Next stop Winona for gas & lunch. Down on 740A. Richard . Levio had to take a break z boots was rubbin' on his foot. Levio . In winona for lunch . After Lunch we started Stage4 and must run into rough terrains like this or worst after 127 miles of off-rd. Climbind up to Ashurst lake from there. Mostly rocky on these trails. Levio really steep in some spot. by z time we were @ on FR3 again we alredy put 145 miles off-rd only, it was only 2:45pm i try to convince Levio to come finish that mysterious section on FS135A. It's a loop from FS125 down to FS125G ~25 miles little rocky that loops around Hutch Mtn and down under z power lines to FR3 again. He refuse z offer he was so sleepy even though i offered him one of my coffee shot. Lack of sleep z night before i know z feeling. So we aired up and slap it to Camp Verde but not without rained on in Clint Wells . Mormon Lake. C U on z next one & be prepared for over 145miles of OFF-ROADS
I think he sold it and got what he wanted for. That DRZ400 is loaded with xtras though & he got it for really good price, i would have bought it and sold it back if i knew about it .
I did a similar ride today from camp verde. Schnebly hill to lake mary rd to winona and back through clints well. Did it on the elefant, nice ride. -John
Yea I would have like to but I'm pretty old and way out of shape to be doing that tough stuff. I would have just held you guys up probably. Nice ride report though. Mil T
