This is the reception and dining area. Super clean as was the room. I booked a room and unloaded the bike.
Then I grabbed the camera to take some pictures of the rock you have seen in the previous post.

You can see the rock from the front entrance. Note - this is a non-fumeur establishment. Location 232 on the 132 ouest route.

Breakfast was excellent, great coffee, and homemade jam. The rates were super low in my opinion due to this being the off season. Reg rate was $95 during the summer.

Just around a few dozen corners you will come up to Forillon NP and Bon Ami campgrounds. Basically the road from Perce to Mont Joli offers lots of twists and turns along the shore. You will pass through many towns but the speeds are generally 70 kmh in towns and 90 kmh on the highways. I found 110 worked well and all the police cars seemed to ignore me. (and there were plenty of police cars in Quebec).

Sorry to hear about your job loss.

I am looking for a run up to Cape Breton real soon - like oct 9 to 13 if you think it is doable.

PM or call to discuss ...

The sign said 1.7 kilometers to the top and 60 minutes. I was thinking it would be round trip for 60 minutes. Nay Nay. The trail was loose and the stairs led to heaven I think.

At the top you are treated to a 360 view of the area. In this picture is a parking lot with the BGP in it. Can't see it. I understand. Just trying to give an idea of the height you attain while walking just 1.7 kms.

I took my time at the top because I knew I wouldn't climb up here again in this lifetime. Shoulda brought a trials bike with me for the climb.

More shots of the look off in picture 1 (look up, way up) and the park.

I left the park and drove towards a large lighthouse on the St. Lawrence.

Something splashed in the water and I noticed it was a seal.

Then I noticed something much larger in the water by the shore.

what it was and it happened so fast I didn't take a picture. It surfaced once and then was gone.
A few minutes later and much further away I saw it again.
I was shooting with a 400 mm at this point and still only got tiny glimpses of the whales leaving the water and splashing down.
This went on for about 20 minutes.

Some days are magical. Between the hike, the seal, the whales, and the riding this was one of those days. It is enough to make you hungry.

No worries whether it was fresh considering the fishing fleets are around the corner.

The restaurant was in L'anse au Griffon and well worth the stop.

I asked the flag lady how long and held up my fingers (1,2,3,4 etc.)
She smiled, then laughed, then lit up a cigarette. Yep, this was going to be a while.

I wanted to make it to the top of Gaspe and did a little night rider stuff.
The temperature dropped to the hypothermia point, but fortunately I found Tim Hortons and after thawing out I dressed up for a little further push to the top.

This was a little lead in for tomorrows brutal ride in temps just above freezing.

Last bit of riding was through the Appalachian trail section of Quebec and New Brunswick. Nice start but mostly straight hwy after St. Leonard.
As you can see the leaves were starting to change colours in Gaspe.
Temperatures were single digits this day, but overall the weather is still fine for
riding here or anywhere in the Maritimes.

That's it for the Gaspe ride. Next ride should be up to Cape Breton just in time to catch the colours.

Cape Breton Island is home to some sweet riding if you like lots of scenery, twists, wildlife, good food, and friendly folks.
Craig joined me for a three day tour of the island that started on Thanksgiving Monday (an appropriate name for going to Cape Breton).

There are a few tiny signs to help visitors find the Cabot Trail. Basically get yourself to Baddeck which is just north of the Canso Causeway
from Nova Scotia's mainland to Cape Breton. Fill up the bike, drink a timmies, and head out.
We did around 1200 kilometers in the three days which is a nice pace.
First night was a campout with a morning temp of 10 C.
This morning; not so warm. Just 2 C at 8 am.
Craig didn't have a heated vest and broke the tenth commandment all day long thinking about my vest.

Here's Craig trying to get a National Geographic picture with the moose that is probably 100 feet away (the black mass on the left of the pic).
Craig even turned off his bike, which I don't recommend. The only other thing he could do better is to wear a red jacket.
I hear moose like that color better when charging out of the trees. :lol3
