Garmin VIRB Elite Camera/GPS

I'm about ready to just flip a coin on either this or the Ghost. Maybe I'll just get one of each and make my own determination. Just need to find some good sales over the next two days, and I'll probably go ahead and do a side-by-side for my own needs.

Not sure how you get 'many others have had similar issues' from that review?

I don't see any folders or references to GoPro in any files on my card.

I'm torn between these two also. Leaning to the Ghost (or Ghost S if it is being shipped soon) as it records in .mov format, already has a remote that doesn't seem to have a lot of problems and the twisty lens thing.

I might lean a bit more to the Garmin if I was using one of the GPS units that could link up with the camera. My Zumo has some features not offered in the handhelds and I not prepared to forgo those. For me, the internal GPS in the camera isn't something I would use.

That's really strange….and of course a real bummer.

It makes me wonder if you had gone through the setup if it would have continued to work. I doubt it would have made a difference but I've seen stranger things happen before.

Hopefully the replacement will be perfect and you'll be enjoying the new camera for a long time.

I wondered that as well. The first thing you need to do when you start it is let it see the skies to find the gps signal which gives it time and location information. But it would be a pretty catastrophic failure if aborting that process killed the unit.

This is an item I added it makes the Virb compatible with Ram Mounts.

All I did id turn the screen on and then charged it up.
Right off the bat I noticed the screen is not back lit....I think I knew that.
It was very hard to see the screen.

Not I just got the thing so it might not matter.
I got to use the thing before I really can comment.

I think I will chase the wife around with it later........after a few bourbon balls

It is your fault showing all the great things you can do with a VIRB. Looked on GPS City and they had an Elite camera with a bundle of things on sale. Not sure what I need but to much is always better than not enough, right.

But you're right - too much is often better. I always kick myself after ordering, thinking I should have got a few more items...

WOW…. you sure went from Spring to Winter quick. Our first snow down here is usually gone in less than 1/2 a day.

On the other hand, folks here freak out and they close the schools if it's only 1" of snow so maybe it's good that our first snow does not last long

Yes, we were socked in by about 12" of snow overnight on Tuesday. No worries, it'll all be gone by next March.

Garmin Virb Edit, the software that you use with the camera can also be used with any mp4 file. If you have the time correct in the camera and you record the ride with a GPS you can have the same experience as with a Virb.
The below video was shot handheld with an iPhone and I used my bicycle GPS:

I was experimenting with the Time Lapse Video setting on the VIRB and when I brought those videos into VIRB Edit I had no idea what to do with them since they seemed to play so fast as to be useless. Then I remembered the slowdown setting in VE, so after slowing the videos down to 12.5% speed, they started to be useful.

Here's an example. Dreary day but better than nothing...
