A twin cam 103 should be able to make 100,000 miles with no problem before needing overhaul. It's likely that it can go longer than that... .
I like my Cop Bike Road King ( FLHPI ). It's an 03. I like mostly for the convience of the thing. Easy to operate and the best saddle bags ever. The cop air cushion seat is the best. I added 08 Brembo front brakes to make it even better. A great dependable bike for just tooling around and commuting: This however, is a lot more fun and has a TON of features for almost the same money: Consider a Sport Touring bike before pulling the trigger on the Harley.
I considered getting a bed and breakfast bike, but decided to go with a full bagger touring bike capable of two up touring.... .
you all big guys? I had my heart set on a RK, sat on one at the dealer and realized, quite quickly, it was not made for my 30" inseam. Doing a goddamn split, that shit is WIDE. Ended up with a switchback. 3/4 sized RK for a 3/4 sized rider.
30" here too, and I'm doing great with my RK Custom. I don't know how much lower it is, but its plenty.
Wow, we lasted 4 pages before a troll arrived..... comments punted... let's go over the posted rules again: Short version: if you haven nothing positive to contribute, and move on.
Not to feed the stereotype, but I spend the day polishing my bike. No shit. Stuboy was home with the flu, so I brought the saddlebags inside, washed and waxed them, then went to the garage and hit the rest of the bike. You see, it's not about shining chrome, it's washing off the road salt from the New Year's Eve ride in the snow and ice. Now for some poser pics!
Wonder which seat the dealer had on that Road King. I have a 31 inch inseam, and have no trouble at all reaching the ground, especially with the stock seat. But, that doesn't matter now, as you got what should be a great touring motorcycle. That's more than just a Dyna with bags and windshield, they reworked the geometry of the steering to make it similar to the touring frames. And being lighter, with the big engine, it should be a fun fun ride. Please give a report after you've logged a few miles.
I need a big touring motorcycle. I keep going back and forth between the Road King, Road Glide Ultra, Electra Glide Ultra, Gold Wing, Victory Vision Tour and Victory Cross Country Tour. Something always draws me back to the Road King. And that Candy Orange/Beer Bottle paint scheme.......WOW. .
If you decide to buy it, I'd opt for cast wheels over spoked wheels.. tubless tires are much more preferable.
Defiantly GB, the 28 spoke cast wheels look great and are the way to go I think because of the reason you mentioned. .
