Howdy All, Sorry I haven't answered your posts, been kinda busy. Thanks for all the comments I am really enjoying the rig and the comments its been getting as I ride it.
I'm glad Jay came through for you. It looks much better now. It really rounds out you stable. Enjoy it.
Howdy Dennis, Yes, this rig really does round out my stable. The Road King Classic "Clyde", for long haul solo riding or touring. The R1 "Lucile", for those times when I just have to have an adrenalin fix RIGHT NOW. The DRZ400S "Yeller thing", for normal dual sport riding. The stock Gear-Up "Canyon Acrobat", for normal Ural riding. The modified Ural "Predator", for when the stock Ural can't do the INSANE type of Ural-a-ling I so enjoy. And now the hacked GS "Gertrude", for the long haul trips in any kind of weather touring. Oh and then theres the old Brit bike "Lucas" for when I really need something to cuss at when the lights go out. Yes I think the stable is now complete.
The stable is never full. There is always room for just one more. Like a classic cafe bike with a steib for coffee on Sundays.
Looking good Dave, hope to get some riding in with you in Idaho next year. I am planning on hitting Alaska on the way to the U.S.C.A. National in Idaho so I will probably be dropping in through Kamloops into Washington and over to Coeur d' Alene via Grand Coulee and maybe we can hook up if you are going to Coeur d' Alene.
Howdy Dana, If it works out it'll be great to meet up and ride with you next year, keep in touch, lets make it happen.
Dave, The R850R final drive ( 3.36) that you installed, how is that working out for you and the bike ? Ron,
Howdy Ron, I like this final drive ratio, easy to get the rig moving from a stop, plenty of power to pass and it will run 70-80 mph all day long, when road and conditions permit I usually run 70-75 on the freeway. This seems to be the sweet spot for making time without burning excess gas, anything over a sustained 75 mph and it really sucks the gasoline.
Love the new new build and the hack paint pattern . Years and years of riding pleasure to come . I am like you in that way Mr Cob . I to would rather be out riding than cleaning . Cheers Ian
G'day mate, Howdy Ian, I'll keep the Beemer kinda clean but I am not going to worry about it, just ride the darn thing. Here in the USA, we can have a sidecar on either side of the bike I should have mounted the hack Aussie style and copied your two wheel drive setup.
Dave, Thanks for the feed back. I have a 1150GS, not the Adv. model and was thinking of going with the 3.00 final drive. But, not having the same trans. gearing as you with the Adv. model I think I will keep on the hunt for a 3.36 final drive. Youve got the good looking fun machine, Ron
Howdy Ron, My bike is NOT the Adventure model its a regular R1150GS. I had the 3.00:1.00 final drive in my bike BEFORE I had the hack installed, in "my" opinion the regular GS even with the 3.00:1.00 final drive is not geared low enough if you want your clutch to last, you want good all around drive-ability, and if you want good quick passing power. I have NO experience with a bike or rig that has the Adventure gearing so I am not qualified to give a competent answer to which final drive ratio would work best with that gear combination.
hey MR. COB...off topic.. wrong thread ...and all that but how did your high mounted winch work out? Just curious
Howdy Claude, Its all finished, all the custom wiring is done, I have been trying to find another Uralista to accompany me on a "filming mission" so I can take the "Predator" out and find something totally stupid to play on and try the winch out. In fact I just posted over on Soviet Steeds, this morning that I needed the help of a local Uralista to accomplish this, so far no one has replied, that should tell you something. :eek1 :huh
