Here's my home made skid plate for my centerstand. Made from .100 6061 T6 aluminum. The brackets I made from a 5/8" (I think?) thick piece of aluminum. Cutting the big hole first than splitting it into two pieces before cutting them out and shaping them into two brakets. I drilled and tapped all the holes and installed some nice aircraft quality NAS titainium bolts.
The rear rack on the GSAdv breaks if there is a lot of weight behind the rear mounting point. I made a very simple rack support out of some 1/8" (I think) steel. Turns out that there are some holes on the mounting rack for the Jesse bags that are in just the right spot to bolt up the support. I mounted the support with a little upward tension. Cheap and so far, effective.
Custom rack for Ducati monster. Not ADV tested yet, but beer run tested! actual rack is 6061, the mounting tabs are 7075, it also rests on the pass seat when fully loaded (~110Lbs). I'll have aux light brackets and GPS mounts done by Feb. Q
[/IMG] I made this luggage rack support recently from 1/2" square tubing purchased from the local hardware store for around $5. There's a Pelican case mounted on top of the homemade alum. plate that's mounted on the stock rack.
Some of mine: Here are a couple other mods I have completed thus far. For $2.50 in Lexan, and $1 in Duel Lock I now have a decent looking cover for my headlight, too late for a small rock chip, but hopefully good for protection. GPS Mount with $1 home made sun screen. I used a plastic folder from Staples and a few inches of black velcro. It works better than the aftermarket ones because it is twice as deep, and blocks more sun. Recognizing my gps had a hard drive I put a foam pad under ram mount on a BMW shelf. The other ram mount is my V1 platform In front of my saddle bag, I installed a photo tripod quiver

I have always disliked my old GPS mount. It was not very stable, and the GPS was partially covering the Tach. So, instead of a Migsel mount like Kermits that cost $150+ (beautiful workmanship and nice unit by the way), I decided to copy the idea, but do it on the cheap! So, old mount: So, instead of spending big bucks, I am running out after my recent home purchase, I decided to make my own. Perusing the hardware store I cam acriss this 3/8" thick shelf bracket. This is a piece of what was left. I cut the one side to length (5"), and the short end to just long enough to thread safely, 3/4" from the bend outside radius. I drilled and tapped out the short end to fit a standard $7 Ram Mount I had lying around, then covered it all in liquid rubber to prevent rust, and scratches on the framework of the bike. Were I to do it again, I would paint it, and cover the lower parts in foam tape for protection. It would look a little better. I used my TT cockpit cover and longer bolts to secure it under the cover. Here you can see it peek out of the bottom under the TT cover. You could easily use a U-bolt, or a smaller flat piece of metal to hold it in place. A few other angles of it: I intend to reroute the wires, but it will have to wait for the tank to come off again since the wires are secured under the tank. The yellow arrows show the two mounting bolts through the TT cover, and the blue arrow shows where I formarly had the GPS bracket mounted (it is designed for a Powerlet Plug). This is my view of it. Right in my line of sight, without blocking any of the instruments, or the road. IMHO the perfect GPS position. Total cost, $15 more than I already spent. From scratch, with the 2XXX garmin locking mount, wiring kit, and RAM components, about $70. Jim

I know many folks have put bottle openers on the bike somewhere- anyone know where advrider could get some made up with fyyff cast instead of coke or whatever, or even have advrider cast into them?
Here the combonation GPS,XM,and radar detector mount I made for my 04' GSA. It all attaches to the top/backside of the Ricky Risers on my bike. Working aircraft assembly I have access to material and trick fasteners. I hate having to deal with nuts and washers so I use rivnuts and nutplates whenever possible. Everything else is riveted together aircraft style with solid AD rivets. Here you cane see how the Radar detector mount is fastened to the backside of the XM mount. I was getting a little more flex than I wanted, look close and you can see a composite doubler/stiffener running fromthe center mount over to the XM mount, did the trick. Assembled and powered up. The idiot lights are sort of behind the GPS but can be seen by leaning forword a couple of inches. I've learned to deal with it. I've alway's ran with my high beams on during the day so not seeing that light isn't a problem, its alway's on. Remembering to turn off the blickers is my biggest problem, id do forget at times. The window/cuttout in the Radar detector mount is for a view of the temp. and fuel gauge. The knob below the XM is the controler for my Gerbings.
