Well I just met the neighbors!! I'll be in Cabin 3 from Tuesday nite on.. Woot!!! Cant wait!!! Jailor8
Thoughts on a band-I will hit up another inmate i know and see how it would work. He plays bass in two of the best bands in Telluride, sort of a reggae funk style, sometimes with a horn section. If there is a bar big enough to hold them and clear a decent cover, maybe with RMAR discount for door and drinks, to help pack the place, it could be a mutually beneficial situation for all. I am also curious about the kid aspect. Considering having my boys out for some of this. They would be on quads and i would need to see what the actual rules are for the trails. They are 5 and 8 and do ride on their own, usually at Peach Valley, but my oldest did ride all of Last Dollar Rd when he was 5 on a crf50. If there was a fun, easy trail ride that would be legal for them to do, they would be all for it! Good call on the food, eliminating breakfast helps get local businesses supported, and also might help some rides get out earlier. Would a morning coffee station be a possibility still? Looking forward to this again and still working on plans for a one day epic singletrack day. With our current lack of snow, scouting early to see if it is feasible shouldn't be a problem!
I'm sure my band would be into this. Let me get with my associate in Silverton and see what venue would best host this kind of thing. I'll be in touch! I've contacted the Grand Emperial, which we have played before and seems to have the room. This kind of thing should work with RMAR only having to pay roughly half of the bands fee. The rest should be paid by the drink slinging venue, Something tells me they will probably do pretty well at the bar with this crowd hanging out.
There is a staging area just east of main street where one can haul the unplated bikes and quads. Unfortunately, Silverton is a community that has outlawed unplated on their streets.....even back streets, despite the fact that a snowmobile can run down main street in the winter. If anyone were so inclined, you should send a 'nice and professional' email to the Mayor and Chamber of Commerce in Silverton. Be nice though.....just state that it would be more convenient to shop and eat and spend your money. Yes.....the coffee station will be on steroids this year. We will put one 60 cup on a timer to start brewing at 5am. We will have two or three of these beastly coffee makers. It will wake everyone up and get ya goin..... There is great single track to the west. Hop over Black Bear and scoot west of Terruride......and it rocks up there....
I know last year, there were a couple of bands in the bars on the weekend we were there. Hopefully the entertainment will be great in 2013. If you guys wanted to book with the Grand, we will leave that between the two of you. While I am one of the biggest music lovers, RMAR wants to put all our dollars back into the trails. .......
oh believe me, i know. What i had in mind was something huge, like Black Bear to Wilson Mesa Trail, around the back way by Dunton, connecting over to Calico Trail by Rico and returning via East Fork. I meant scouting early to determine if that is too amibitious, and just cut it down to a quicker way over to Rico via Hermosa area, maybe Scotch Creek possibly, then Calico and back over East Fork. A shorter trip like that could allow even a quick jaunt down the Burnett trail so lunch could be had in Rico at the Enterprise or Herks, then back up and finish the ride north on Calico and then East Fork back to Hermosa Park. Just a good, epic one day ride for probably no more than 6-8 ambitious riders.
I'm officially IN. RV reservation made at Red Mountain. YAY! Here's a little reminder of last year's Hermosa Creek ride:
Sure. Why not! Although I was tired and a little dehydrated last time, it was still an adventure and that is what it is all about.
OK so we can come play the GE....BUT we (the Band) will basically be playing for the door. Will folks come, pay a $5 dollar cover charge and drink a lot of alcohol? We are a 7 piece band with a killer horn section, we put on a good show playing upbeat Reggae, Funk, Rock, Soul, Latin, Afro Beat etc... I normally wouldn't book a venue that just wants to pay us the door...BUT i'm willing to make an exception for the RMAR folks IF it seems there is enough interest. We have members in the band that come from Moab and Taos to play our shows. If its a bust attendance wise I end up paying my boys out of my pocket We can do either Friday or Saturday night.
I'm good for a 5 buck door as for the drinking, just ask around..... Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Ref to the band(s) Maybe it would be better to just encourage some of the normal venues in Silverton that if they were scheduling bands anyway, that the Weekend we are there would be a good one. But dont tell em, Hey we promise you 100 thristy RMAR riders. This way they advertise it like normal to draw their normal crowd and we, if you choose to go just boost the attendance... er revenue. Something like " Hey did you guys know that there will be a bunch of music loving motorcycle riders here the last weekend in July?" Plant the seed but let nature do the work. My 2 cent worth. Jailor8
Well, thats basically how I'm approaching it. The deal is we are a fairly large band and there are very few venues that can fit us and a decent crowd. The GE is one we've played before for a private event and its big enough and has decent acoustics. They don't usually have bands at all. And by playing for the door the venue takes zero risk. I on the other hand, assume all the risk for this kinda deal. I'm pretty confident that with non RMAR tourists and a little help from the RMAR group we can do it, have a great time, and I won't lose my ass. I'm gonna book it, probably for Saturday night. Theres is the option to make it free for RMAR participants but that would require some $ from RMAR which Big John has already said he's not into, which I understand. Hope to see some dirty bikers out there!! Keep in mind that showing up would be giving back to the trails cuz I do alot of trail clearing in the spring!!
