Yep. As a was riding alone almost every pic was taken by me or the remote timer. It's only a few times when I met people (f.e. kktos) that I've asked somebody to push the button. And yes, you're right with the back and forth Even more for the movie shots. But I enjoyed every minute. No matter if it was back or forth.

Yep. I was the one who advised Kimangao on shutter speeds and apertures whilst I tried to change the roll of film in his digital camera.:eek1 It's obvious that he didn't listen to a single word I said, fortunately

This is my inofficial setting-off day. Inofficial because I'm still waiting for the white HP2. But the white tank hasn't made it's way from OZ to Europe yet. I decide to leave beautiful Marseilles now to stroll around. I'll be back here for the official start

On top of the hill you see Marseilles landmark, the church of Notre-Dame de la Garde.






This monument is the visual gateway to Northern-Africa where France held territories for a long time. I'll be there soon, in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia. That's at least what I believe now. But who knows his fate? Planning often replaces contigency by error




I'm following the rocky coastline a bit until I reach the vast beaches west of Marseilles. A good spot to regain some riding abilities on tracks and on sand.




The plage de L'Espiguette is completely abandonned in early spring. Perfect!





This is the first time I say "Halleluja, what a bike!" I've been riding an HP2 one or two years ago in Tunisia for a short while but I've completely forgotten how easy and powerful at the same time this thing behaves.






The plage de L'Espiguette and the nearby town of La Grande Motte is the first chance to meet an ADVinmate, kktos. Not knowing each other before, he told me when I was seeking some info here on the board that I will necessarily pass his home. It's right on the shore and if I only follow the coastline I cannot miss it.

When I met kktos for the first time I was impressed by his excellent hospitality and moreover his idea about riding. A true adventure rider. What I didn't knew that time is that I would meet him later on that journey again. Several times ... But first things first




kktos introduced me to the region between the city of Montpellier and the Camargue, western Europes largest river delta.



The Camargue is home to some ancient places like the town of Aigues Mortes, meaning Dead Waters. Louis IX had built the town in 1240 as a port. In his days France didn't have a port in Southern France. But he needed one for several reason. The most important might have been to embark the 7th Crusade. Also the 8th Crusade set off from Aigues Mortes.



Over the centuries river Rhône sedimented that much material that nowadays the ancient port is 8kms from the shore.



kktos enjoyed a superb night sky right in front of the city walls ... while I was trying to take a proper picture ...



Next morning I went for a trip to another legendary spot: Les Saintes Maries de la Mer.



But I see Les Saintes Maries only from far. A little problem on the HP2 forced me to have a first in-depth analysis of the electrics. The starter engine didn't like to disconnect from the gearbox after starting the engine ...
