A few of us sidecar folks (6-8 as of now) plan to attend the Rich Mountain Rendezvous scheduled for September 20-22, 2013 at Queen Wilhelmina State Park on the Talimena Scenic Drive near Mena, Arkansas, home of some great riding, both on-pavement and off-pavement: http://www.talimenascenicdrive.com/

In addition to great roads to explore, there is also a classic car/motorcycle collection down in Mena and the Arkansas Native Plant & Wildlife Center at the base of the mountain.

Unfortunately the Lodge is closed for renovations until Spring 2014, but there are both RV & Tent camping available on site, with motels in Mena. As long as it's not raining, this has proven to be a great time of the year to camp on Rich Mountain.

Here is the rally info from rally registrar Steve:

Come enjoy the rally fun in Mena, Arkansas, Sept 20-11, 2013. The riding is great, both paved mountain twisties and forest roads. Maps will be available. The Queen Wilhelmina State Park has clean restrooms and hot showers, RV spaces (Lodge is closed 'til Spring 2014).
The rally offers burger/weenies/chips on Friday night, catered food AND live entertainment on Saturday night - with great tunes from a local band, a message therapist, rides in vintage/classic cars, and continental breakfasts on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday morning, wrenching, riding, t-shirts....awesome!!! Those registering early will get a $5 discount and be guaranteed a rally t-shirt. Those who register early and want to show up Thursday night will get chicken fajitas, but must let Rally Master know.

Registration, beginning Friday 9AM, is $35 per person.... Tent camping is $12.10 per night, payable at rally registration. RV spaces must be reserved through the QW office. There are motels in Mena, just 20 minutes away.
All proceeds will go to CASA of the Ouachita Region. All registrants should bring an item for the door-prize raffle. Attendees generosity has helped children of abuse and neglect in the area for many years; help continue that effort and have a great time with friends.
Contact Steve Johnson for rally registration: drmoons@mangomoons.com or 210-392-9088

The Texas Ural Riders Division (the "TURD's") of the Soviet Steeds have once again invited all sidecar enthusiasts to join them for the Spring TURD -- the New Mexico Invasion of Timberon, New Mexico, scheduled for Thurs-Sat, June 5th-7th, but some folks are already planning on extra days before/after. There is no rally fee or registration, but there may be group rides/meals, so please post if you plan to attend so proper arrangements can be made.

Timberon, Elevation ±7100 feet, is 30 miles south of Cloudcroft at the end of the paved road at the Southern end of the Sacramento Mountains in the Lincoln National Forest. If you prefer paved road travel, you have to travel back up to Cloudcroft to descend the mountains to the East, West or North. However, if you prefer exploring unpaved county/forest roads, and maybe even some 2-track depending on road conditions, opportunities abound in the area -- with great scenery I am told.

Temperatures in early June average ±75* daytime highs to ±50* overnight lows -- subject to change, of course.

But Beware: Timberon is a off the beaten path:
There is no cell phone service, nor antennae TV reception.
There is one small convenience store with regular gas +diesel and a few supplies (not a full grocery store).
Aurora has a small cafe on-site and may be available for breakfast Tues/Wed/Thurs - we may have to help cook/clean.
There is a small deli in town for sandwiches for lunch thru late afternoon.
There is a small sports bar/cafe open lunch-dinner with burgers/beer, etc.

Due to persistent drought conditions throughout the region, open campfires are not permitted -- unless Timberon has a very wet winter.

Rally central is the Riverside Condo's run by fellow sidecarists George & Aurora**: http://www.timberon.info/mountain/lodging/condos/ with special pricing for TURD's (and friends of TURD's) staying 3+nights
and the Circle Cross RV Park 1/4 mile up the road: http://www.timberon.info/mountain/rv...cross-rv-park/ There are other lodging options in the area, varying from efficiency apartments to grand lodges.

Please contact Aurora at 318-987-2372 or gcorder@dellcity.com for camping/rv/lodging info & reservations.

The primary source of Spring TURD info/updates is here: http://www.sovietsteeds.com/forums/v...f=3&t=31596&am...

By popular demand, the East Texas Sidecar Muster is back for 2014 - scheduled for May 2-4 at Holly Park Marina on the Texas side of Toledo Bend.

And back by even greater demand are Friday Evening Tamales by Art & Rosa :clap

Please make your lodging/RV/camping reservations directly with Holly Park Marina:
http://www.hollyparkmarina.com Day Phone: 409-625-4424 Email : info@hollyparkmarina.com

We will plan a Saturday group ride -- most likely for lunch at the Pinto Pony in San Augustine.

We can also arrange to explore some gravel roads in the Sabine National Forest.

Hopefully the Sale on the Trail Flea Market along Hwy 21 will be the same weekend, so we can stop in Milam -- I need some more blue cornmeal.

There is no official registration, but please let me know if you are coming so we can get a head count for Tamales and Lunch.

2014 Brass Monkey ride and Campout.<?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />
Dates are Feb. 14th,15th,16th and 17th 2014 Its at the same place the Airheads BMW Club had there campout in November. It's at the Salton Sea California State Park campground on Mecca Beach located on the east side of the Salton Sea.
The campgrounds has paved roads, solar heated showers, flush toilets, and plenty of shade. The Sunsets in the evening are spectacular and you can pitch your tent right on the edge of the lake; wake up to the sounds of pelicans and other sea birds that call this place home.
Eight miles south is the village of Bombay Beach, which has a bar, a convenience store, and an American Legion Hall which serves very good (and extremely inexpensive) breakfast, lunch & Dinner.
Wendell at the Ski Inn will keep you hydrated with some very stiff drinks and you can mingle with the locals who rarely see outsiders.
If you travel 15 miles north, you will find the town of Mecca with gas, grocery stores and restaurants serving very authentic Mexican food.
You can also bring your own food, drink and provisions to take care of yourself right there at the campground. There is plenty of running water and picnic tables.
Slab City, Salvation Mountain, the mud pots, the Salton Sea visitors center and Alfaro's Date Ranch also make great spots to visit while you're in the region. This is a very motorcycle friendly campground so we can have many bikes per site, which well keep the cost down.
