OK it's $140, check the thread titled R100GS "y-pipe" to replace collector box by EPCO in stainless $140 order instructions for details!
Stage, I think they are closed for the day so you might not sit ont he edge of your chair while waiting
latest posting? isn't THIS your latest posting? I didn't get no PM... Sorry to be so dense, but could you elaborate, or point me in the right direction? and THANK YOU for pulling this together for us all!
Sorry Gringo, that should have said check the thread titled " R100GS "y-pipe" to replace collector box by EPCO in stainless $140 order instructions" and the info is there.... No thanks needed at all... Solo
You might not have missed anything :) the consensus is: a y-pipe is more fashion than performance, since even a well made one isnt quite as good as a stock collector. I'd like to go back to a collector, even if they are a bit heavier. The collectirs are heavier, arent they?
I have a Khein collector for my G/S...not installed (still waiting for mine to rust out). One of these days it will get put on. Got it from Motobins some time ago. Better buying from them than stateside.
Question to bring this back from the dead.... For any of you that went Y-Pipe I also put a custom made one on my 89 R100GS. I am in the middle of tuning and wondered if you stuck with the stock Jetting or not? Thanks Sam
Stock muffler, stock jetting on mine. Runs great. A little popping on decel sometimes but I don’t mind it.
I'm running a Y-pipe from inmate Houseoffubar (who does very high quality work btw) and have not changed jets or done anything more than periodic carb balancing - bike runs great, no popping or other misbehavior...
Also running one of Eric's (Houseoffubar) Y-Pipes with stock jetting. I backed off the mixture screws further than what the manual calls for, just over 1 full turn if I recall. Found the best setting by shorting one plug at a time and then balancing. Runs great as far as I can tell, no flat spots or anything. Did a plug chop and everything looked good.
My input is that Eric's Y pipe is a waste of $250. I took a 550 mile trip this weekend and my seat-of-the-pants dyno is that although the rpm's at 5k and above feel stronger, the mid range 3k-5k are weaker. The bike just wouldn't pull hills in 5th at 4k and it's always been just a case of more throttle and the torque would kick in. This weekend I couldn't pull in 5th and had to down shift to 4th to get the rpm's in the 5k range. The Y is noticeably louder than the stock collector. It's not an obtrusive loud, it just has a noticeably louder rumble. Ok, those two issues aren't the killer. If any of you have changed your push rod seals, you know you have to remove the header to be able to pull the cylinder away from the head. With the collector it's was just a matter of loosening the connections and pulling the header away. My Y pipe to header connections were so tight, I had to hammer the Y on. When you have to pound the Y pipe onto the header pipes, loosening the clamp does nothing. To get the header off I had to totally remove the Y pipe which meant pulling the muffler and the rear wheel. I had to pound the Y so much to get it off, I dented the stainless steel, and it's tough stuff. If you take your bike to a mechanic to have your push rod seals replaced, don't be surprised if he either refuses to do the job as the header can't be removed, or he cuts the Y off. You've been warned! My collector has gone back on and the Y sits in the parts bin. Harsh? Yes, but I'm pissed at what I had to go thru. Dave
