The gas tank color-change brings up another question. How does one refinish side panels, fenders, plastic bits? Tried sanding out the scratches, but I just get bigger/more scratches.
here ya go I think you'll wanna go for the heatgun part.. <iframe src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/KJb5IPOx2l0" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" width="420"></iframe> or perhaps this, also read the comments below the vids on youtub <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/a-TmmTrOSj8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
If you use a steel wool scourer, it does a better job than the boxcutter blade..and a hell of a lot quicker too!!! My .02 .
I tried the heat gun. Doesn't help much. Wet sand paper worked great: 100 - 200 grit (to get out big scratches, if you don't have big ones skip) then get higher grit gradually to 2000 or more. Then go over with the heat gun for kicks (seemed to make it a tad shinier). Then clear coat. Even with the clear coat it's not factory shiny but I prefer it that way. As long as it has a bit of gloss it looks good. A lot of work but side plastics are expensive on the 650. For other fenders I'd just buy a UFO one. Someone should test out that tank dye and tell my how it holds up.
could someboy help me on how to change the font on here? I hit something and the damn font is miniature I mean like 8! I got good eye sight but this is ridiculous... dont know how to switch back to 12 or 14 pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease?

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2 Hey quys while installing this case saver I noticed my sprocket has play In it ? It is very new as is the shaft? Are they this way even when new or are jt sprockets junk
its normal, brand new they have slop in them and jt seem to be good sprockets. you can check out the write ups on swithing to a xr650r sprocket, they take all the slop out with a better fit.
oops i thought i was looking at the xr650l thread, im not sure on the xr600 sprockets? the xr600 guys will know.
play as in side to side or back and forth? hey with that chain gaurd... the top bolt is that on the engine mount?
all good, some use the xr650r sprockets as they are wider but the side to side movement is normal providing the retainer and sprocket are in good nick
Since the gear retainer index's in the slot on the counter shaft there should be almost no movement side to side. Fore and aft rotation = worn gear and shaft.
So the xr650 sprocket will work and is better. Does it just bolt up with no mods.? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
Hey All, I have a problem with my XR. I am attempting to line up everything on TDC so that I can replace the timing chain, and the markings on the flywheel are nowhere near the inspection hole when on TDC. With the flywheel marks lined up in the inspection hole, the piston appears to be on BDC prior to the compression stroke. Needless to say, the markings on the cam sprocket are way out. The engine was running before I removed it from the frame.. The marks are on the flywheel are: | | |F |T got me stumped....any ideas???
