I come check this thread every other day or so hoping for some good news......... Will somebody hurry up and post it....... Hello, Yamaha, anybody home........
me too but it seems that by the lack of signatures that people here in thumpers are just not interested in getting this bike here for some reason it baffles me.
Because it seems to be a bit of an underpowered pig. I already own an underpowered pig. It's a nice looking machine but doesn't appear to bring anything new to the table, hence my lack of interest. Hopefully Yamaha will make note of this and do something about it.
238 and i've been pushing my regional Yammi rep to hammer it into his bosses head that we want this bike.
It would certainly be more interesting if it had a higher power to weight ratio. I'm sure it's a fine machine and I would like to have it available here but, realistically, I don't think were missing out on something special. And I was one of those who was super excited when Yamaha initially announced the bike. It definitely looks sweet.
DRZ400 has a few variants, the K (kickstart only, not sure if it's still in production), the E (electric start, maybe a kickstart backup, not street legal), and the S (street legal, electric start only). The E and K have higher compression, different carb, and cam, so the numbers on an E are probably higher. That being said, an E has 48hp, according to: http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/photos/2003models/2003models-Suzuki-DR-Z400E.htm EDIT: On the original topic, not going to sign any petition b/c I won't buy a $9,000 thumper. Just got a used KLR, can't imagine trading it unless the the Tenere had huge power and good economy... and it doesn't sound like it does.
Why the lack of interest? I've been a Yamaha fan since the DT-1 but in todays economy I am on a DR diet. It could be worse, I could still be riding a DT, or worse yet a KLR.
I was at my local dealer yesterday and they had a poster of one on the wall. I guess it doesn't mean it is coming to the states but it is a pretty good indication.
