Cool, since I have a few things to do before I get home (organise 2 weddings, learn a language, move house, find a new place to name a few), can you PM in 7 or so weeks and I'll get onto it.

I am finding that the suspension on my new 690 R is not very compliant. In an effort to soften it I have backed out all damping settings completely ( apart from some fork rebound )and it still is very solid. I can live with the Shock action but not the forks. I note that the forks are supposed to have 275 MM of travel, yet after marking the lowest point of the seal travel on the fork (after braking sufficiently hard on a tarmac surface to break front wheel traction) I can only measure 185 MM of travel with the fork again fully extended. That equates to about 90 MM of missing travel. I previously had a 950 Adventure that used all of its travel and was very plush. Anyone got any ideas ?

silly question, but do you bleed the air out of the forks regularly and if yes, have you checked the oil level in the forks? That said, the 690's (at least the "e" model) has much stiffer springs than is typical on a KTM off roader. My 690 forks are much stiffer that my 950A (which were overly soft), but seems to work pretty well when setup about 20 clicks out on compression - I forget the rebound settings off the top of my head.

I increased the size of the air chamber (lowered the oil level to the lowest level recommended in the manual) and installed bleeder valves. That helped quite a bit. Also I found that some of the harshness disappeared after the bike chassis was broken in by riding off road. Mine had pre-load spacers which I removed to get a proper sag.

Many thanks for the advice . Yes I have air bleeders installed and they are used regularly. However the increase in the volume of the air chamber makes perfect sense. I will check out the spacers also.

should only take 10 min to install.

lucky for me Vortex in only a 15 minute drive have had a vortex cdi on one of my old 525EXC i know how good they are , Speaking with richard he sudgested we go for two different map pro files

1st profile is stardard air box & slip on muffler with 5 other maps
2nd is opened airbox & slip on muffler with 5 other maps

As i have added 4 airvents into the snokle part of the air box but not in creased the actual mouth of the airbiox my theory is this will act like a ventury \ velocity stack .
