I'm up to page 2950 but can't read the rest. Anybody got the Readers Digest version? I been busy. This is day 19 out of 22 worked in a row. Did that so I could have 10 days off before and 14 off after without vacation and on those days off I've been and will be flying the B29 "FIFI" I got 'em BS'ed into wanting me to become a PIC in the 29 so I'm putting in a lot of time flying her out on the road. Flew her from Dallas to Mobile to Tallahassee to Daytona Beach and gave rides in Mobile. This leads me into my telling you fellers that I know here that I'm not gonna be able to make it to SLAP this year , but if ya still need tne $$ I'm good for it. Hope to get the HondaDavidson up your way sometime this summer! Pigboat too. FOX10 takes a ride on the B-29: fox10tv.com I was flying in both those vids The top one at around 4:20 I did a couple of circuits around the Battleship USS Alabama.
I could very well ride local, If'n I had someone to ride with...you interested? I could be good to go on saturday, (please say yes cause I gotta get outta da house! :huh ) Lucky you Wayne'O..you aint ghey enuff, yet anyway.
How you are so lucky to be flying FIFI, or maybe I should say so good to be able to fly FI FI. You sure kept it going down the center of the runway, with all that power. A very great job and thanks for sharing the video, too. How many horse power is each motor, and the number of cyclinders? Take good care of her, she is quite a major part of America!
That is some cool flying Mike. That kind of fixed wing flying I would love to do. If you guys get a F4-U4 gullwing I am I want to join your club. I flew out of that airport quite a bit doing lidar and 360 degree videos of the mobile river. I was flying lower than your ass when you were still on the runway.
Corner Workers have the 2nd best seat in the house. Only the racers have it better. Plus you get in FREE, and they feed you lunch! My Wife and I used to work races with the SCCA when we lived in St. Louis. Great memories!
Kinda quiet in here. One of those days huh. It's slow here at work too. I should just take a nap here at my desk.
Yeah its just a blah day! We were suposed to be camping since wednesday, keep putting it off as the campground is a muddy mess I'm sure. I called someone that lives near Combs and they said they got 10" of rain.
They said they used the "Three A's" to choose the two candidates from the nine that applied for the training. Attitude, Aptitude, and Availability. Guess I was around so much and BS'ed 'em into believing I could fly....... Actually I went out for a week last fall and flew the squadrons B24 and I guess I didn't make too many people scream like girls!:eek1 Each engine is an 18 cylinder, 3350 cu in, 2200hp engine. It's a bit of a challenge keeping her headed in the right direction as the nose wheel is free castoring and the brakes are so touchy that you don't use them once you start the roll. Power from the outboard engines is used to steer her till you hit 65mph then the rudder starts working. I can't believe they let me drive this thing! I told 'em I feel a very heavy burden of responsibility for operating this national treasure. She is a one-of-a-kind flying bird!
Thanks for sharing the FIFI vidieo Mike, what an honor to pilot a piece of history ! Can't even imagine what they went through during WWII. Nothing but respect for what they did ! Craig
I gotta figure out how to play that video thru my hd tv. Any body know how? P.S When is FIFI coming to Fayetteville.
Mike, what fuel does it use & what additives do they have to put in? Do the let the turbos spin up at all? Max MP at take off that you all use? What was it in WWII with 115/145 fuel? What is normal T/O weight today & what was it in WWII? Looks like you get off pretty quick & if you use Addison, or other than 10K runways, can you get to R-1 and get stopped or do you have to decide a lot earlier???? Yeah, different for all cases but, do they have her stats computer loaded for all cases like a jet with atl, hum, wt, densitiy alt, length, etc.???? Or do you havre to use experience and just be conservative?
They sure didn't take off with much runway left when loaded with ordinance. In some of those old videos you can tell the pilots are really finessing all they can out of them. I can appreciate that, I have done plenty of takeoffs in helicopters where I had to spit out the window to get us over the hump.
