got the pipe in. it had some rust so i may send it back. not sure yet. also after looking at it im not possitive it will fit.
Bump. Dont want to wait another 6 months for the next step. My expansion chamber is close to the same shape. I had to cut off one of the tabs for the toolbox to get it to tuck in closer to the bike.
yeah i lost my job there.... life happens like that sometimes ya know. but im making good money again and doing work. also i've shaved off just about every mounting tab not 100% necessary for anything for weight savings. i may run a small leather tool bag but im not sure yet.
I love a rebuild of any description, but your last post has me a little confused. Your cutting off any tab or bracket that isnt necessary to save weight, but you`ve added that front end that will probably add twenty times the weight your cutting off. Can I ask why your going for a leading link style front instead of a conventional fork set up. I understand that when braking this creates a sort of anti-dive to the front, but its only a 100cc bike. How much dive can you be trying to save on such a lightweight machine? Please note Im not knocking your rebuild or ideas. Just trying to understand them. Craig
haha the point has muddled. it has transformed from the final idea being a cafe to the final idea being almost a brat style. the front end was just a good deal i stumbled upon for cheap and i thought it would add a lot of personality at this point im just bolting on cool bits and bobs and seeing where it takes me. at the time i cut off all the tabs i was still aiming at hardcore cafe racer. so how is this bike going to turn out now? i guess well just have to see. i may still go cafe style but it may end up something all together different just kind of winging it but thats how all my best projects get done.
well actually got around to test fitting the sachs forks. so close its scary all its gonna take is milling out the bearing race a little and shaving the perimeter of this to apply pressure to said bearing race. ill probably have to cut some knotches and make a special tool to tighten it but no biggie. then just a small spacer to cover up the 1-2 mm worth of thread that will be exposed. the bottom bearing race and sachs steering stem all fit perfect.
5 3/4 headlight http://www.ebay.com/itm/BLACK-BATES...Parts_Accessories&hash=item4cfff030a6&vxp=mtr or 4.5 ? http://www.ebay.com/itm/EMGO-4-5-UN...Parts_Accessories&hash=item3cc2b76827&vxp=mtr
I`d go the EMGO light. looks better. Not sure if its the same brand but I have EMGO pipes on my R65 Cafe. Good products.
ok so i just decided on a paint job. i go to a lot of conventions and everyone has always been awesome about autographs and just generally cool people. my wallet was actually coated in autogrphs from cons. well thats going to be my paint job. im priming it white and taking a sharpie with me to my next few conventions. check this out adam west patrick stwerart STAN THE MAN LEE http://www.scifiexpo.com/DCC/dcc.html
new tank came in today. i dont know if i mentioned this but this is officially no longer a cafe. its a weird custom brat build now where im throwing together bits that look cool.
got in some new shocks today. ill be ordering another set buy i wanted to make sure everything cleared and lined up before i spent the money for 2 sets. yeah they are just shitty little chinese shocks but on a bike that weighs all of 130lbs wet i figured it would be fine.
call it the pushmi-pullyu LOL I keep watching the thread, you arn't afraid to think outside the box, and that can be good or bad lol..
i sat down and tried to figure out an end look with the parts i have now. the drawing isn't amazing but it gives you an idea. also me and a friend where just chatting and he brought up a good point. that swing arm stand out against the everything else being so tubular. so i ordered an early ke100 swing arm and am under-bracing it to match the beefy tube everything look the bike is developing. plus they run like $20 delivered so why the hell not right? going for a look like this.
swing arm came in today. so how hard will it be to swap it in? well that was easy! bracing on the swing arm made of pvc and duct tape.....im sure it will hold ok so its just a super quick and dirty mock up to see how it will look. ill be designing the final one tonight. maybe even an upper and a lower brace. EDIT: also yes that was a direct bolt on. its about an inch shorter than stock but everything still lines up.
That might actually work better. If the shock mounts on the swingarm are closer to the pivot vs the stock ones it might raise the rear end a little, and your front end seemed to be a little taller then stock, so it might even out.
