I heard they went pretty heavy with the water and it was slicker than snot for the early races at Taft
That's the word on the street.... but once it came time for my race it was pretty much ideal. There were a couple hillclimbs that I went up and I swear to you the 525 accelerates faster going uphill in the dirt in those conditions than it does on the street. A few times I held a steady wheelie up this hillclimb and it was all I could do to hold on! The course was starting to get beat up by the end though... and awesome!
Hey brother!! I cant remember: Are you in San Fran or LA? Co-incidently I will be in Palm Springs this weekend smoozing with investors on a golf course, trying to get them to buy our Canadian silver mining stock. I'd rather be riding to be riding, but it pays the bills and will help towards an attempt at the Dakar in January. Great to hear you are still out there doing these races. I'm really looking forward to your videos, but now you're an old hand at it, one of the scarey wild guys This year should be good a good one from a rally point of view. In the next day or two Im gonna tell the wife I want to do the Abu Dhabi Desert challenge at the end of March, she already knows I will be on a 2 day rally in South Africa end April, and if the company does well, then I will probably do the Dos Sertoes again in August, this time without breaking anything or drowning the bike! Should be good prep from January. Apart from the Catalina, what are you plans? When are you going to try a rally?
if you're gonna be in Palm Springs this weekend, go check out King of the Hammers as well as King of the Motos.... http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=760903
you're going to give the Dakar a try!! Thats crazy! I definitely wish you all the best and hope that you make it there!! I will be watching from afar - a proud ADVer! I dont think rallying for me is in the cards.... simply the cost of the bike etc and the time required to learn and train, I simply dont have. I have to push it a little as it is doing these weekend races. The wife and I are actively trying to have a kid so as soon as that comes along, im pretty sure the racing is going to go on hold for awhile....well.... maybe> dont get me wrong, Id love to learn how to rally but if I do it, I would prefer to do it all the way and not just kinda.
no..... THIS guy won. I did however see him on the start line and congratulated him on Dakar and we chatted for a few minutes as they cleared the track. He said it was amazing and that he really enjoyed it. Nice guy. Honor to race with him. And when are YOU coming out Charles?!?!?! Its about time... .Checkers is coming up in a few weeks.... many people's favorite race of the year.... :ddog
I know you were sayin that essentially the whole bike is new.... which is crazy. How many miles have put on it?? You know they recommend a new top end ever 20 hours or something. its a race bike...
What kind of drama? It's a fuckin RFS fer chrisakes, not a rocket motor. And if I had put a topend on my bike every 20 hrs I'd be be at about 200 rebuilds by now.
Im not saying they need it, im just saying what the manual suggests. mine was smoking a little when I started it on sunday.... made me nervous.
So I started a new video today about the last two races, the theme of which is, even after two years of racing I still basically know nothing and have a lot to learn. What an incredible sport.... it really is. After two years of anything you would think that you would have a decent grasp but honestly the more I race, the more I understand how incredible other riders are. anyways, here's a clip from the Dirt Diggers GP "Endurocross" section.... it was pretty easy. This was loop 2 for me and you can tell im already exhausted. ...and my suspension is still too soft. <iframe src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/x-KxXDRfjtY" allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" width="560"></iframe>
I was already tired to the point that I couldnt stand....remember I was sick for almost a month before the start of that race and I hadn't done almost any cardio in a very long time.... I totally hear what you're saying and my form leaves much to be desired Nice pics BTW!
not sure if you guys are familiar with the similar meme that's been going around online, but I mocked this up today.
