I was able to go for a nice long daytrip this last Friday, right through some of the areas Mortimer has been recently sharing....all I can say is WOW! This was my first time riding in this region and I was absolutely blown away by the roads and the unbelievable landscapes. Now that I have "discovered" this part of my neighborhood, I will be returning quite often...can't wait to make the ride out to John Day!

my route - ended up being 311 miles and about 10 hours with all the stops

I got caught in a torrential cloudburst, I mean, it was like riding through a waterfall with hail thrown in...it only lasted for about 5 miles though, and I had donned some of my rain gear earlier due to the high winds/chilly temps, so everything was good and soaked, but I was dry and this quaint little park provided a nice drying break....

Rowe Creek Rd/ S Twickenham was one of the coolest parts of this ride......dreamlike.....

That looks like a great ride. I really need to go see the Painted Hills in person one of these days.

Thanks for posting the map of your route.

    Nice ride, indeed!
The sky seems to look like that most times I've been out that way.
Big, beautiful poofy clouds. Big Sky Oregon.

No, sir. I missed that. Pretty cool old school.
I should edit that "I've been through Twickenham twice"

In February, a year-and-a-half ago (the week after you, me, and Squishy did that pavement route all around it)
I rode there for the first time.
It was beautiful in February there, about 55 degrees and sunny :knary ,
...and below freezing when I left home and when I got back home :vardy .

I just saw a few houses spread out a bit,
and went to this bridge over the John Day and took some pictures...

The second time was running short of daylight last September,
and I still had to be home for the night, so I blew right by it.

More reasons to go BACK :clap (you know....on my way to Kinzua :D )

Yes, he should. I hope I get to see all that stuff he's seen :nod

    Great Quote, indeed !!

Is this in Twickenham? If it is I've ridden past and didn't notice it.

I finally slowed down enough to notice that neat old building by the edge of Hwy 206, between Condon and the John Day, that you had taken a picture of a while back, ...and posted it....maybe in the "Name the Location" thread?

Actually, I was following Mustangshelly on the way back from LB's Enterprise gig,
...pretty much limited to 45mph in the rediculously raging wind that day :1drink

It is set back off the road a ways, behind a house, on your left, before you round the bend to cross the bridge.

The house has a long driveway, with a sign by the road welcoming visitors.

I went up and knocked on the door of the house, and a nice lady gave me a guided tour.

    Hey, where's the love? :dunno

I'm just trying to help. I know you guys don't have enough time to do all your own riding, so I step up to do it for you. It's my job; it's right there in my profile: "Occupation: Surrogate Motorcycle Rider." It's volunteer work; I should get a tax break for this.

I don't even ask for gas money.

Sheesh, just like Rodney... can't get no respect.

    Meet @ Govy.

After riding through Ollalie, we endure some rough road up & over to the south...to some more awesome views. Here's 3cows (still with the use of his full gear range).

Abbot Rd washout, Navigating the lines. All right for the lighter bikes...well 3cows' KTM had a little nap on the way up the other side (which is pretty steep & rutted, alright in the dry with knobbs), & he broke his gear lever off. After it's nap, we got it into 2nd & he & Throttlebody rode out to meet pick up crew with trailer in Estacada.
Mort & i rode back out down 58? to the Clackamas river for some nice twisty blacktop. Rendezvoused with the other 2 on the way into Estacada...for a well earned ale.

A great ride Gary, thanks for the idea. Note to self: order a spare gear lever to take on rides with Gary. :D
