Just as one more data point, RTWDoug and I were able to ship our bikes to Vladi on the deck of a boat in the summer of 2011, the alternative was to crate it, which we did not want to mess with. It seems like there is a fair bit of flex about what is allowed, and it depends to a large extent on the whims of the ship's captain. We were kind of lucky timing-wise in that we arrived in Magadan in the afternoon, went sniffing around for a boat in the morning, and the bikes were loaded a few hours later.

Nope, it's a fake Colt Python, the brass plug on the bottom of the grip leads me to believe it is a port to fill the butane, I think it's a lighter.

If you took the regular road (not the summer road) back to Irkuskt, could a bike be shipped back to EU by rail?

Here are some rough edited clips which can be a temporary preview untill I have time to put together a proper video. Sorry for not texting the Norwegian part of it, but I will do that in a later version. So untill I have a final version - this one is password protected, but it is a preview for you inmates here at Advrider!

Steve, not quite a first class ride home for your trusty 800GS, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Hugely well done for taking that bike where you did, right next to those other more purpose-built machines.

I guess you mean Yakutsk. Walter and Terry shipped their bikes to Moscow by truck. Not that expensive.

Soon there should be an option to ship by train also from Yakutsk. They are working on a connection between Tynda and Yakutsk as we speak :D

If a picture is worth a 1,000 words, well then a 15 minute video is worth............ ah, that's too much math for me. That was absolutely exceptional. The teamwork and pure enjoyment you got from overcoming each and every obstacle and challenge is evident. The Viking spirit of discovery, documented. Thank you :clap

Thanks C-Stain. Do you speak Norwegian as well? Our achievments were totally a team effort and neither of us could have done this trip solo. Especially big greetings to Walter and Terry for letting us come along. And especially to Walter for inspiring and sharing this with all of us. If it was not for Walter most of us would never heard of the BAM road and these great places in Russia! The best part is that he just shares all his knownledge, tech details, waypoints, routes and everything with all of us here. That is amazing and should really be applauded - We had an easier job following Walters tracks! :clap:clap
