I'd look at the Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 then. Although if it doesn't have to look like an AR, I'd recommend going with a Ruger 10/22 and if you need it to look tactical, get a Nordic Components AR22 stock.

We have several 10/22's. What I really want is something that is dimensionally similar to an AR so that there is familiarity/muscle memory between platforms.

    S&W M&P 15-22 gets high marks, there's also the Mossberg 751T.

Well, if you're wanting to have her transition into a centerfire AR then I suggest getting a CMMG AR15 .22LR. Otherwise, the S&W M&P15-22. None of the 22's function exactly like an AR. The biggest difference with the Umarex and S&W is that they use a plastic shell. So they have a completely different feel and balance to them. The S&W can at least use a mil-spec AR's trigger group and grip. You''re stuck with their rail but you can change the stock.

I love my Colt (Umarex) M4 - blast to shoot and cheap (wife has pretty much claimed it now).

Any tips on getting the little door open on the bottom of the magpul MOE grips?

I wedge the little tang back with a pen, but I can't get the damn thing open to install it.

Is everyone who is picking these up now getting bent over on pricing?

The prices you see online (like gunbroker) and around here on armslist are a joke. People paying two to three times what stuff was worth a couple months back.

$1700.00 + tax and NICS. I put a deposit down before Sandy Hook at my local shop and they've been nice enough to hold it for me all this time. I picked it up Saturday and we all had a good laugh about putting it up on Gunbroker to see what kind of madness would occur.

Well, have a nice Windham weaponry upper receiver assembly headed my way. Anybody point me to a supplier/FFL that hasn't gone nuts with regard to stripped lower receivers? I'm in the South Carolina area.

I think the only lowers readily available are going to be the polymer ones. I think most of the big manufacturers/machinists are months behind, and if you can find one online or IRL, expect to pay several times what they were selling for two months ago.

Armalite, Mega MaTen and LMT 7.62 AR rifles were going in the $2,300-$3,200 range at the local fun show this weekend.

    And they were selling.
