He would be dinner for a couple of years! He just showed up, pretty sure someone owns him...none the less he chased me back onto my deck when I tried to scare him away! He did seem to like the shop though...
I hope he doesn't like it so much he decides to rip a hole in the side if it and go in out of the snow. Pretty cool pic!
This is a great question. So many people get this wrong. I am an Architect and Contractor and spent years researching the best practices regarding your situation. There is a plastic form that can be installed between your roof decking and insulation that creates an air space to keep the hot air circulating. You need to have proper ventilation at your eves or cornice. Some way for the air to get in at the low end, then travel up toward the ridge. To maximize your space your could go back into the roof and install a continuous ridge vent that wouldn't cost much assuming that this is a shingle roof. Once these plastic pans are installed you can then insulate over them between your trusses. The hot air that would have been trapped behind the insulation destroying your shingles will circulate up and out. That is the best solution that I know of. I will try to find a link for the pan. http://www.buildingforhealth.com/proddetail.php?prod=ADO-PV That is probably what you need. Good luck. Good for you for doing it properly.. It will pay off in the long run.
Not really a man castle, more of a little, obnoxious, 12 & 13 yr old castle, but I run the place and get to spend way to much time using all the crap in it. Bicycle tools General mechanicin tools Metal working tools wicked awesome storage system Bike storage closet Other half of the room houses the engines... Pretty sweet setup that I cant claim credit for. More storage for tools and legos. Yes, I said legos. Bidness end of the shop- welding booth and metal tools Power tools Random R/C airplane hangin from the a/c... The welding booth, which is a big mess right now. Stake table. That brown box/room thingy is actually a spray booth that I REALLY need to get cleaned out and the fan fixed on. VERY cramped computer lab. Work done here. Sometimes. And the not so fun part of my shop... If you havent figured it out yet, I teach engines, bicycle, and computer repair, metal working, leather working, and tech and design classes that cover everything from airplanes to irrigation to maglev to 3D cad to........... Love my job. Hope I can still afford to do it next year.
I hope you can too. That's an important job. I'm sick and tired of stupid fucking kids who can't do anything worthwhile. The stuff you teach is worthwhile so please hang in there. Some of the guys I went to trade school with were absolute fucking morons from the start. Some were able to learn it, some just couldn't but I always appreciated how hard the instructors worked with those guys.
I visited Montana last summer and was asked about taking a job at the local high school....... for $21,000. I dont know how some of you guys do that.
We had a pretty good shop where I went to HS, but that's got it beat. I bet the kids have a lot of fun in there. I hate the fact that a lot of schools don't teach shop any more...
