Pics are misleading. I just recently bought a set used. It doesnt exactly fit- im tall and slim, the sleeves and pantlegs are just a tad to short BUT all the pads are in place where they should be and gloves and boots are more than enough to account for the shortness. As far as safety is concerned they fit perfect. When put on, the suit, especially jacket, looks HUGE- but its not. It fits quite snug. I can wear a thermal and waterproof liner- but it gets hard to move. If I add in my electric liner I can barely secure my helmet. As far as summer, non-liner fit- the pads are all very snug all over. I am very impressed.
After reading through this thread (and some other articles) and contacting Wayne with some questions I went ahead and ordered a pair of Ultra II Air Mesh Kevlar Pants. When I talked to Wayne yesterday he told me they're currently running 7 days from order to shipping. He also told me that based on history it'll be 2 1/2 - 3 months from order to shipping by next month. So the moral of the story is if you're considering ordering do it now and get your gear with little wait! I'm very much looking forward to riding with some protection instead of the completely worthless (as far as protection goes) denim jeans I've been using. I'm planning on upgrading my jacket to a Marathon Mesh Kevlar as soon as I can save up the money.
Their GP2 track pants fit my style well for preferred "slim fit." I'm considering their Riva Cordura jacket to zip into the GP2's making a nice 2 piece however the Riva looks "puffy" in the arms for a slim guy like me...Anyone own the Riva in particular? http://www.motoport.com/index.php?option=com_redshop&view=product&pid=98&cid=13&Itemid=38
its true...i ordered my marathon jacket from wayne 2 weeks agao and sure enough it arrived yesterday. however it is stuck over at my ups store box and i haven't gotten my hands on it yet...i sepnt a lot of time with wayne on the phone and with a measuring tape in an attempt to get a good slim fit from the marathon....when i gat my hands on it ill post up pix and a review here.
Couple of hours ago I ordered a Marathon jacket in air mesh....Wayne said between 7--10 days til shipped! ,we"ll see. Also ordered a pair of their "over mittens"( pvc coated....for wet /cold) to fit over my racing gloves....I'll let ya know how those work out.
so I picked up my mesh kevlar marathon today .....the time Wayne spent with me on the phone paid off. it fits pretty much exactly how i wanted. much tighter than my ultra II (which will be for sale here soon ) and just enough room to fit a fleece jacket or electric liner under. the armor sayys in place and it feels very comftrable even before it is broken in. im stoked...i finally have the protection i bought my first motoport jacket for and i think it looks good too. when i get a chance ill post some pix so you can decide for yourself. there was one little snafu, i ordered a waterproof pocket insert and it was made for a vertical cargo pocket rather than the flat zip pockets i had Wayne add to my jacket...he responded immediately to my e mail and they will sort it out. all in all a great experience dealing with motoport.
Well..those photos suck. But more to the point- those images are people standing, not riding. My suit fits much better while in the riding position than in the standing position, where it is pretty awful. So- as a fashion statement, you'll be unsatisfied with the suit. As riding gear, you may (or may not) be satisfied.
Early this month, Wayne told me he is planning on updating the photos on the site. Many of the photos are of an employee wearing an item, not the individual for whom it was tailored.
Yea, some photo updating is in order especially on the Marathon mesh page!.More detailed photo's,collar differences, how pants and jacket zip together etc, etc,.
I am reviving this thread to make my 2nd contribution to the Motoport experience. I posted back on page 117, post #1742 about my experience with my Motoport stretch Kevlar jeans and my hopes to add a jacket. Well, it came time to replace the 8-year old Olympia AST and I pulled the trigger on a custom stretch kevlar Marathon jacket. After the jeans had performed well during hot weather riding, I hope that the air flow of the stretch material, combined with the vents and a cooling vest (yet to be purchased) will allow a comfortable ride in the summer. The jacket is made with the 'cool black' material. In the interest of reducing the material blocking air flow and because I never use them, all the cargo pockets were deleted. I added mesh elbow patches, 2 sleeve pockets, emergency information pocket and horizontal hi viz arm bands. Standard armor. Also added the mesh expansion panel for the zipper for summer riding because it's cheaper to get it when the jacket is made. Wayne himself called me when I had a question on jacket length. I wanted it long enough to stay put but short enough not to bunch. He was helpful and took time to help me understand what measurements I needed. Most problems on this thread have had to do with fit, so I was concerned to spend the money but when it arrived, the fit was great! I wanted enough room for the electric jacket liner and a thin windblock layer but nothing else, so the fit with just a tee shirt would not be too bulky. It works will. And riding today in temps in the 50s and 60s and just a tee shirt let me know it flows air too! Felt good! At the moment, I can't think of anything I would change. It has proven to be extremely comfortable and while any garment with that much armor can't be too stylish, I think it looks good. Everyone's first comment is always "we can sure see you!" Pictures:
That looks great. I have a Marathon stretch jacket that was just too hot, so I sent it in and had Wayne swap out the arms for mesh. I'm anxious to see if it makes much difference.
I love my stretch marathon jacket, and I think I can save you some money on the cooling vest idea. I originally bought one of those, but it is a heavy and slimy mess to wear. Instead, just wet down your base layer shirt with a water bottle, zip everything up tight except for your vents to adjust the speed of evaporation. I have ridden in some really hot weather like this, and only need to resoak the shirt every few hours. A wet bandana around your neck also does wonders. I am still amazed at how heavy this gear is when you pick it up (sort of like a suit of armor going into battle), but how the weight really disappears once you don the jacket and the weight is distributed so evenly across your upper body. I have the quad armor, which I think is quite a bit heavier in weight than the regular, so your jacket may not feel as hefty as mine. Great stuff, and as I add thousands more miles each year, no complaints.
looks great I've got one that i'm working on with wayne. looks very similar but in the mesh. hope to get it back soon with all my custom changes and get pics up. I'm trying to combine all the features i liked from my rally 3, fg tpg, and klim adv rally. hoping it will be "the suit to replace them all"!! I was wondering about making the fit tighter but it seems like it will work well. thanks for posting the pics.
So, here I am, 8 months after from my post above, with a status update. The pants are now "comfortable," as long as I only use long underwear or bike shorts underneath them. Trousers or jeans won't fit underneath them, so I've just resigned myself to carrying my work trousers with me in my tailbag and changing when I get to work. "Tight" is an understatement if I try to use the liner. The jacket, though: Ugh. I have had it with this jacket. I sent it back to Motoport for alteration (you get one free). They expanded the torso width and sleeve width by adding in a 1.5 inch strip of fabric. But the jacket still rubs me raw on the tops of my shoulders. And forget fitting my heated jacket liner underneath it. Not happening. I am typically a men's medium size in shirts and jackets. If you're a smaller rider who might want to pick up a Motorport Marathon jacket in stretch Kevlar, shoot me a private message. I'm willing to entertain reasonable offers. I need the money so I can get a better-fitting jacket that works for me.
I LOVE Motorport gear and fortunately have had the exact opposite experience. I've had my Kevlar Mesh pants and jacket, as well as my liners and Kevlar race gloves for over six years, have put a LOT of miles on them and they look new! :) I had a very significant accident after ten months, hit from behind by an 18 wheeler, at speed, in a construction zone and sent flying in multiple somersaults. The bike was totaled but I walked away! Yes, WALKED AWAY!!! The gear was filthy but after cleaning a bit it was as good as new! :) Did I mention that I LOVE Motorport! :) I ride in hot South Texas summers and use the Motoport liners and my Gerbing liner for cold winter days. I have the shorter jacket that zippers to the pants and it all works great. I have the tri armor, which I like, but I'm strongly considering getting the tail bone armor that Motoport now offers and I 'might' go with the quad armor for that one piece. We'll see. Again, sorry, smoore. Read Crashmasters horrendous wreck account, and those of others and there is no doubt that this is great, protective gear. Get with Wayne personally. The guy is very helpful in my experience. PS: I concur with the poster above who recommended wetting your shirt versus buying a cooling vest. I bought a cooling vest and got rid of it. HEAVY when wet, not very cooling, and SLIMY! :) Wet your shirt every couple of hours and it works much better.
I'm apparently the outlier in the grand Motoport gear experiment. My experience with their products and with Wayne have been much different than yours. I'll grant you, they may make great protective gear. But if I'm not paying attention to my riding and my environment because I can't ignore how uncomfortable the Motoport jacket is, then it's sort of defeating the purpose, you know? I'm extremely disappointed to be out so much money, with nothing but annoyance and an uncomfortable jacket to show for it. As a result of my own experiences with them, I cannot recommend them or their products, but again, I'm apparently the exception. I'm selling the Motoport jacket. I have one person here on ADV who has said he is interested in it, but if he gives it a pass, I'll list it here first, then go to Craigslist if nobody here wants it.
