Tiger 800 Windshields

my deflectors came with the T-screws installed on the opposite side of what they should have been and I wasn't creative enough to think about switching them around. i'm an idiot.

That one is on Madstad, not you. I would drop them a email about what happened, they are very responsive to customer problems. Might save somebody else some grief.

Yes. I have used a black indelible marker in the past for this. Might help to dull the edges with fine sandpaper first.

I have this shield and also the factory headlight cover/shield and it does reflect a lot of light at night. I tried using some black door guard edging on the lip of the windshield and on top of the headlight guard. It did cut the reflected light quite a bit, but I would only rate it as partially successful. However, I believe if I removed the headlight cover it would have worked far better. I just didn't try it that way because I like protecting my headlights and rarely ride after dark.

I believe the edging would work well, or better yet painting the bottom portion of the windshield. However, if you could move the front edge of the windshield back so the front edge of the windshield were behind the leading edge of the headlights then you'd have success.

How about using a piece of the auto door edge protection strips that they see in auto stores along the bottom of the shield? Just a thought....

Thanks for the ideas. I'll start with sanding the edges or covering them. I use the shield in the lowest setting so it does stick out past the top edge of the headlight a bit.

Just ordered Laminar Lip. Will see how it goes.

I have now tried most of the suggestions. Dulling the edges had little or no effect. I tried some black electrical tape also around the edges and covered a portion of the the bottom. That helped cut it down quite a bit so I decided to just try painting it. A friend had some flat black PlastiDip and suggested using it. The nice thing about the PlastiDip it is easily removable. It peels off if you ever want to remove it. This provided the required result with no more reflected light. I really do not care for the look of the all black screen now but function over form wins out. I will probably get used to the way it looks eventually.

Curious: why did you go with the Adventure over the Explorer?

Any thoughts, for those of you that chose one over the other, as to why you made that choice?

I had Mark make an Explorer Slim to clear my hand guards with risers installed. I think it fits the Tiger better than the standard Explorer or Adventure.

I have the 20" Explorer. Primary difference is the astetics of the lower edge.

I have Rox Risers and stock hand guards (will be adding HDB soon) and have no interference issues.

I see what you're saying about the lower edge. This will be the first darkly I EVER buy, so I would really like to do it right. Any issues two up?

I had an opportunity to examine the Givi AF6401 in some detail. It looks like it was made for the Tiger, almost looks factory. The outer screen is very easy to position and looks like it will accommodate taller riders. Has anyone been able to ride with this screen and the Madstad? I know that this is a long shot, but perhaps luck will be on my side.

Alright Thumper, any chance of some more feedback on this now you have had it for a few months. I'm based in the UK and this is gonna be a lot more cost effective for me (and better looking) than the Madstrad.

Please can you let me know how tall you are, and whether you ride with the seat up or down. I'm 6' 0" and usually ride distance with the seat on the high setting. Ultimately, is this going to be a fair amount better than the stock crap which presently nails me in the forehead at any speed 50+?

As this screen seems to be on the standard mounts how much vibration/ movement does the screen have at speed?

Has anyone tried both screens? If so why did you make the selection that you did?

I believe the only difference is the look. I thought the adventure fit the shape of the headlight better. Strictly a personal preference. I can't see as there would be spit difference functionally.

If I was going to change anything I would go with the 18 instead of the 20. I am 5' 11", 32 inseam. With the 20 all the way down, I can just see over the top. Which is just perfect for highway miles. But in rougher going I find myself forced to look through the screen to see the ground closer to me. Something I don't like to do.

The guy at Madstadd offered to exchange the shield when I first got it but I declined the offer. He also offered to cut my shield down for me at a later date. I may take him up on that offer eventually.

As for how I like it. The screen is worlds better than stock. Very effective. Significantly quieter with less turbulence. Not at all hard to ride at 60mph with my face shield up. Something impossible with the stock screen. I consider it money well spent.

The folks at Mastad confirm Yankee Dogs position that there is little difference in protection between the two. The person that I spoke with said that the Explorer was styled with the Tiger 800 in mind. After learning that I placed my order for a 22" in Med Smoke. Although there have been many positive reviews I will post mine when I get it sorted out. I was very tempted to go with the adjustable Givi but couldn't get any feedback about its performance.

How tall are you? and what's your inseam? Please post your thoughts on wind noise once you get to try the screen. Thanks.

The missus reports that the back seat is calm, cool and collected as well.

We are about the same height (6 ft) and I ride with the seat in the high position. I had the bike out last week for an extended 12 hour on & off road ride and essentially no buffeting at all. Screen mounts quickly and has no noticeable vibration - very happy with the screen. Had the bike over 150 kph at one stretch and the screen was rock solid.
