Brent - Admitting it is the first step towards recovery. Here is a pic of a sweet brents347 rack on my bike
I guess that means we have to wait to see the pics. BTW - just got the rack in and it is top quality. Thanks Brent!
The rest of this week's brown boxes came First, the practical... The first item was Brent's billet rack seen previously. Very nice piece and workmanship I like having the capability of carrying stuff for an overnighter or what have you. I was thinking of mounting a Pelican 1500 via u bolts or gettiing a Givi top plate and u bolting it (which I still may do for extra weatherproof/secure storage). But then an AdvRider posted a new tail pack (which I think is for a 950 A) for a pretty reasonable price and I thought it might work with Brent's bracket (which I hadn't received yet). So I bought it, figuring that I could always use it with an upcoming addition Fit just fine- using slots that are already machined. Not quick disconnect, but a nbd 2-3 minute drill. That extra piece you see near the handle is from a strap I added from the side connectors (which you can barely see in the photo below- the little "bump" straight down from the M of KTM). I did that rather than use the supplied D ring type because I could pull the side pieces in towards the middle and thus away from the pipes. The D rings had them too close to the pipes and the inevitable movement would have resulted in them getting burned. Besides, I can use the D rings on the upcoming addition. The next two things were "match ups". I mean why have a black clutch reservoir cover and an orange brake reservoir cover? Minor niggle- the oranges are different shades. (And for those of you wondering- the Hard Part orange anodized cap for the rear brake reservoir doesn't work for the 950s) Sorta ditto on the left side wrt carbon alternator cover and black plastic sprocket cover Huge weight difference- must have saved 3 grams. At least! I have (so far anyway) resisted the urge to get the pricey carbon spash/chain guard combo, though it was an effort not to order it when I ordered the sprocket & clutch reservoir covers. That's the downside (though it's all upside for them) of Lifetime KTMTalk membership- I keep focusing on what I save with the discount rather than what I'm actually spending. Or maybe that should be
I am so over the cafe racers after years riding nothing but...I am thoroughly addicted to the upright riding position on the track and it is so rewarding to lay the beat-down on unsuspecting 600 AFM guys!
Miles that is. Little over 300 miles of mostly twisty pavement yesterday. Other than a great deal of fun, nothing much to report. So far, mostly like reporting on Honda ownership Prehaps I'll do an oil change to add some grist to the mill. Ob bike pic (from the camera phone)
KTM Hard Part called supermoto footpeg sliders 54803047000. Sometimes they show up under 950 parts, sometimes under supermoto parts. Typical KTM web organization
Fitted a 16 tooth front sprocket today, top ends gone but acceleration.....:eek1 :eek1 :eek1 Do it people
what fuel range are you getting out of the bike as I'm thinking of riding mine to Alaska cheers great write up by the way
All stock except for cannister removal- between 115 and 130 miles before going on reserve; which seems consistent with the range others are getting. It's a little hard to run out of gas here in NJ (though that hasn't stopped me a couple of times in the past ); so I don't pay a lot of attention to mileage/range.
I just have to bump this back up. 950SM fans, don'cha know. Tonight after I got home I took the ST11 to the CVS for some liquid refreshment for the weekend. OK, fine - booze. With the fairing on the ST11 I wasn't too bad off in the 33F weather. So I got the itch to take the SM out for a rip. I fuggin froze my arse off! BRRR!! Fairings are NICE. But, ya know what? I had a complete BLAST! Wheelies are a bit iffy with winter mitts, but even hyperthermic, this is one hell of a fun bike!! I need better winter riding gear. Now back to our regular channel...
Maybe you should look into Meztler Marathons at the next tire change. You know that thing'll lean over, right? The bike has a lot of ground clearance. I'm jealous. At least we have .. uh ... uh .. well, Da Bears!
I just ordered a small windscreen for the bike. I should get it in a couple of days; and it will be interesting to see if it's effective to any degree. Although it's been pretty warm in NJ the past week or so (over 70 degrees a couple of days) it won't be long before those days are memories. With good riding and heated gear, I actually like riding this time of year- better sight lines on those gnarly tree-lined back roads.
