It was definitely a compliment. When you're in the middle of nowhere, there's nobody to give your bike style-points or take them away. If a system keeps you from walking or pushing, it's a good system. And I actually love hose clamps when the load forces are working with them. I rode many thousands of miles with a Vetter Windjammer V on two different bikes, and the whole fairing system was held on with a bunch of hose clamps. I also have bag mounts on my XCountry and feel they're as safe as I am. I'm the most dangerous part of any of my motorcycles. :eek1 (Doesn't that llama look like a slug with legs?)
Hey Geoff, can you remember which ceramic coating you had applied? Mine is still as good as new and cleans off very easily. They used the hardest one available on mine as the darker coating (which looks really good and you see on a lot of road and bigger adv bikes) chips off easily from small stones thrown up and even scratches from boot buckles etc. The cooling properties certainly do as advertised.
Well, I am pretty happy with all my recent mods. The exhaust hanger worked well, I did about 110 miles today, over half of which was dirt of various levels of roughness, the pipe is solid and did not move. My windshield works great, no buffeting at all, and I hit 103MPH indicated today, not sure I have gotten the G650 up to that speed before. With a D908 on the back and a Mefo Super Exp on the front, I didn't hang out at that speed too long, but the windshield works well. The forks work great, I posted over in the suspension thread how I feel about them. I still need to get my shock shortened. I had dropped it off at the suspension place with the forks but without taking any measurements on the bike he didn't do anything to it except mess with the preload and clickers. I have about a 32" inseam and the bike is just too tall. PCV/muffler combo are nice. More low end grunt, I don't seem to have to down shift as much as before, I am real happy with how it is running. Long term I will see if I am happy with the fuel mileage. I did experience the issue where I turned the bike on and the trip meters zeroed, earlier in this thread someone reported that being caused by the HIDs. I have to address this, probably with a switch to turn off the low beam. I still need to address fuel capacity before my trip up the Continental Divide this summer. What is the best deal out there to add 4-6L of fuel? I need a good GPS mount. The ram holder for the 60CSX sucks.
Thank you for your reply. I pretty sure it's ti. I know someone that has done some pretty extrodinary stuff with titanium and motorcycles and he's telling me no weldy the steel and ti. I might have him make me a ti bracket and weld it for me or your solution looks really good, problem is I can't make it.
I never got the brand name. Got it done @ http://www.specializedcoating.com/index.htm in Huntington Beach, CA. Mine is titanium colored which I was told is not one of the harder shades. But it has more baked-on tar than pits!
I find my RAM mount more than adequate. I mount in on the ball on the handlebar clamp: I keep my 60CSX from vibrating in its mount with a hair scunci or two: (I stay away from the pink and lime ones, BTW.)
Geoff, The ball, mount, and all that stuff is solid. The problem is the GPS sometimes bounces out of the holder. I use conventional rubber bands, I will get some of those hair ones. I also thought about one of those rubber bracelets that were in fashion a couple years ago. I find the GPS decides to bounce out of it's cradle at the worst moment, when negotiating more difficult terrain.
I had the same issue with the RAM for my 60CSx...I noticed that it occurred when the front suspension cycled the MOST...and therefore I guess that the front brake line would hit the cradle and "trigger" the GPS to pop out... Relocating it to a different/higher angle, and using a hair band as well (I have long hair, black colored hair band please)...it works great ever since!
Hi Guys, After a bird strike at well over the speed limit popped the Zumu out of it's mount, I made up a simple safety gadget that 100% eliminates unwanted Zumo departures at speed. Also keeps your sleeve from unlatching the release when you reach over to reset the odometer or clock. I'll snap some pics asap..........
I use a strip of self adhesive velcro in the cradle and also on the rear of my Oregon to help keep it in place. Does not move a bit now and you have to 'tear' it off the velcro to remove from the cradle. Not sure on the design or shape of your cradle though.
Velcro sounds like a good idea. I smeared some silcon on the inside of the holder to improve fit, then I use a loop cut from inner tube to secure it. I use similar loops to secure the power lead to the gps (1/2 hitch on the cable), and at the other end, to the power socket.
How do you knock a 60CSx out of the cradle? I have yet to do that. If it is bouncing a vibrating, you don't have it in the cradle right. Check how you used the security screw on the back, as it isn't locating correctly.
I am certain I am putting the GPS in the cradle properly. Below is a pic of the cradle I use, it is made by Ram. The security screw only holds on a rubber grommet that snaps into the ring on the pic. Others use a beefy rubber band to hold the GPS in. That tells me I am not the only one who has had this issue. I will get better rubber bands for future use as mine must bee too wimpy. I may add some Velcro also. Perhaps I will just roll a condom over the whole thing, then it will be waterproof, retained very well, and one hell of a conversation piece. Cradle Grommet
I run the scrunci between the mounting ball and the antenna. It lets the unit jiggle a little and, thus, the unit get scuffed on its base each ride. But that way, the scrunci doesn't interfere with the display or scratch it. Others: ribbed and pre-lubricated?
I've had the lose of GPS problem. I started running the Garmin lanard tied to the bars, for the chance of GPS departure. The TT GPS cradle model that mounts on the bar riser is the way to go in my opinon.
I tried that and you can't see ithe GPS when you're standing up. If your 60CSx moves in the cradle at ALL, you don't have it mounted in the cradle right.
Is that it? Is that the whole PC review? Where is the PC installed? Got a pic? Did you get a map with it? Did they give you any printed dyno charts? How about decel popping--got any? I'm sure Cruz has more questions.
