    Beauty and Brains, Wow!

Thanks for your info John, you're the best.

If any of my readers don't know, John Downs writes an excellent, epic ride report on ADVRider. John and i have been friends on here for about a year and have ridden to many of the same places. We haven't had the opportunity to meet yet....but I want to be there the day that happens:rofl

John is a great writer, a true adventurer, here is a link to his report, be warned, it is addictive.

I am in Cape May, NJ

Not where I thought I would end up but here I am. I was here about six weeks ago and too a lot of pictures, they are on my computer at home however. I originally came down to the Jersy Shore to visit friends Phyllis and John who Angele and I know from our trips to KW. I saw them in September and had a wonderful visit, hit Cape May for a couple days then rode to Rhode Island, met my buddy Steve and rode Mass, VT, NH and Maine on the way home without submitting a RR. In the end I got a cold and my mood was not RR material. Still it was a good trip on some awesome roads.

    So yesterday.....

Started out kind of shaky, I loaded the bike, and was ready to blast off, punched the starter...Nothing!:huh

    Nothing:huh

It took a few minutes but by highly honed diagnostic skills slowly zeroed in on the problem. I had left my heated grips on and drained the battery. Odd because I remembered shutting them off. I had not doubled checked the light, which is dim at the best of times, so either it was my fault for not double checking or possibly some one walked by the bike and touched a button the shouldn't have. I will be double checking the light in future.

Call AAA, they came and gave me a boost, no charge, 'cause I am a member and my CAA policy covers the bike. :deal

I forgot to take a picture while he was there, but here is the bike with the seat off, cash plate lowered, etc, waiting for buddy to show up.

Within minutes he had me running and I assembled the bike and blasted off. It was clear but chilly then cloudy and downright cool. I crossed the Tappan Zee Bridge

At the top of the hill I had to decide to take the 287 West toward the Blue Ridge Parkway or take the Garden State Parkway South. I took the GS Parkway, It was so bloody cold and windy I just wanted to head south and I knew the way to Cape May with no need to navigate. I blasted by my friends Phyllis and John with regrets but I just made Cape May before dark.

My original plan had been to ride the Blue Ridge Parkway, but I think it could be potentially very chilly up there so I decided on the spur of the moment to ride the coast.

I took a couple pics in Cape May yesterday, I was thinking I had more to show you from my September trip, but, alas they are in my computer at home. This is a wonderful town with amazing architecture. You can likely google image some of the amazing Cape May houses. I took this shot of this Grand Beach Hotel yesterday

I stayed in more modest digs, very clean and nice and highly recommended

and they have wifi that works!!!

Here are a few of the pictures I took in Maine and tried to post at McDonalds in Hartford, the other night

A great old Woody Wagon I saw. It was like new and decals in the side widows of the dozens of places it has visited, what a car, sorry I didn't get a better shot.

And finally I had posted a duplicate picture earlier in error when I tried to show that there were bugs, blackflies on the Maine Coast in spite of the cold. Here is some proof.

Thanks for all your wonderful feedback and comments, more later, I have a ferry to catch.

    Hey Dee White

Sorry it's taken so long for me to chime in here . . . been spending my time drinking a lot of cheap (the only thing cheap here) French wine and eating some pretty good French food. Am getting a little chubby(ier).

Weather permitting, when I get back in early November will be trying to ferry my bike down to California and then back in Jan to pick it up. I know we have a couple similar favorite beaches and other Mexican haunts, so hopefully we will meet up sometime this winter.

Ride safe, have fun and we'll hopefully see you down the road.

While visiting Antigua, Guatemala 2 years ago on our RT 1100 my husband had two porcelain crowns replaced and I had one at a cost of $150 each and they are still in place and have had no infections and intend to return for more work. We just came across the Dentist when we were roaming the streets so nothing was pre-arranged.

Yes, that's because we get to fix the train wrecks caused by dentists that practice in central and south America. We see the carnage. It's not pretty. If you think 20 grand is expensive, just wait until you have to have a surgeon replace part of your jaw with one of your ribs and some titanium because of poor operating procedures by a dentist in Mexico. Yes, I have seen it happen.

And just so you know, that 20 grand will not buy your dentist a new Harley. He might see 10% of that as profit. For the number of hours and expertise required that goes into properly planning a case like yours, his pay is not much. You cannot properly place 4 implants and restorations without extensive planning and will take at least 6 months IF it's done properly. Your body takes time to heal and if rushed the consequences can be catastrophic. Run from any dentist that says they can accomplish this in less time than that.

I suppose it's all priorities. A new motorcycle (KTM 990) and a road trip or my health??????

Please travel safely and choose your dentist carefully. It would be a shame to see another inmate end up having to stay home this winter for extensive facial reconstruction, nerve regeneration therapy, skin grafts, and dentures.

I meant for this to come off strongly. I really do care. Please choose carefully.

Doctor, the problem is the average consumer has no way of knowing if his/her choice is correct. Even here in the US it is difficult. You can contact a state medical board, but all they give you is a list of generalists/specialists in your area. You can get that from the Yellow pages. Only when some quack screws up is he booted and then they just move to another state. I spent 32 years in the Pharmaceutical business and I've seen marginal medical doctors /dentists come and go. For the consumer its like flipping a coin. Just because someone graduated from medical school/passed state lice sure and maybe is boarded doesn't mean they practice good dentistry/medicine.

Im rather new in this forum, because I just bought myself a 13GSW. Im an MD Ophthalmologist. All the talk about bad Mexican MD`s is just plain BS. All doctors have complications, the only ones that don't have them are the ones that don't practice. I dearly understand the CAN/US dentist about having work done somewhere else, since I suffer the same with Mexican patients wanting to have work done in the US/CAN. As for myself I trained in CAN and practice in Monterrey, Mex. My father is having some implants done as we speak, they are expensive by Mexican standard, but cheaper than US/CAN. The Dentist doing the work is a close friend and trained in the US/Harvard, so he know his stuff.

    Kedgi:
If you are going to port aransas, you might as well go to Laredo 2hr, and cross the border and ride to Monterrey, another 2hrs.
PM me if you need info or a place to stay. I have not been on many touring adventures but many off road adventures on my ATV.

    good luck

I'm amazed at the divergence in opinions I have caused. I tend to be a mild mannered guy who rarely says what he thinks.....if you knew me personally ...you would know how funny that is!

Thanks for your input..glad you're reading

    Yikes!

I am with you dude! No worries. What I don't understand however is how a poor little guy like Kedgi (myself) can work airplanes all his life and never bump two together, take planeloads of dentists across the ocean and not be able to afford a dentist? I mean WTF? Were talking hard working well educated people that invested wisely cut out of proper healthcare?

20G is a lot of coin?

I live in a small town, we see the profits

    Just sayin"

    Holy Crap!

I had no Idea what i was opening up with this conversation.

I will tell you something about myself in hopes that it will Moderate or is it Mitigate this conversation

When my Mom was alive, God rest her soul, she said "you can tell Dwight anything you like, he will consider it, and then he will do exactly what he wants to do"

It is what makes me an adventurer, it is why you read what I write here.
