Shutup noob. It is not against Rule #9. Read it slowly next time. And Consumer's Union is a nonprofit.

    this is the sarcastic part:
    no way ! realllllly ?

    here's the learning part:

a discussion needs points and counterpoints. expect to be wrong (I am, a lot!) and learn more interesting things, along with other peoples perspectives and experiences. its fun !

a name calling argument is mostly a waste of time and resources. seeing the winter months coming and holidays, I'd expect more of them, but usually look for the facts n stuff instead.

if you want to discuss things, cool. otherwise, I'll skip the capitalization some more, but continue the punctuation for the rest of the crowds' sake.

also, why ya so worked up homie ?

How much are these things in the US? I was reading a local review (it's called the Holden Volt over here, Holden = Aussie GM) and while it mirrored a lot of the comments in this thread albeit without the analysis, hair pulling etc it shows and on the road cost here of $89,000 (that's $73,000 in your money). Fuck me that's a lot, my wifes' 2009 Peugot 308 cost us $35k new, the review mentioned it would take 500,000kms to recover the purchase price compared to a Toyota Corolla without allowing for a 10 year battery pack replacemnent at $20,000.

Somehow I can't see these taking off over here. :cry

Depending on options, they sticker at $39k-$46k. There is a Federal $7500 tax incentive and California adds another $2,500. The price is negotiable at the dealer as well. They're selling pretty well in the S.F. Bay Area.

Ta, I thought it would be something like that, even with gas at $2.20 a litre ($6.15 for one of your gallons in your money) I can get a lot of mileage out of $40,000 worth of gas.
If our government actually took electric options seriously they would provide a tax incentive to get into these vehicles, it wouldn't be hard to cut our imported fuel bill by 10%.

I drove from S.F. to Oakland via Marin this evening and managed 42 miles on a charge that started out with 34 miles estimated. I drove carefully but pretty much at the flow of the slower traffic. It seems like the official 38 mile range is reasonable. The route has a lot of inclines and declines which makes the number more impressive.

It looks just like this Silver Topaz with polished wheels and every other Silver Topaz with polished wheels Volt. I did clay bar and wax it on saturday, so it's shiny.

I just took my Volt in to get the oil changed. Oil life at 12000 total miles was 68%, having burned about 150g of gas.

I couldn't really accept having oil in there for over a year old that was the original break-in oil. I'm a bit old school I guess.

I think they did a software update, because the audio source icons are a bit different looking.

Just a few weeks away from a year of ownership, and I'm still pretty happy.

Everybody I talk to about the car thinks the Volt is a pure battery electric, not an electric with an internal combustion powered range extender.

If our govt did this with all their vehicles, our fuel bill would drop 90%.

No, really, we have soooo many wasteful SUVs in govt service its appalling.

Why'd you get the service manuals anor?

I'd been meaning to bring this thread back up. I'm curious as to why the Volt uses halogen headlights and not H.I.D. I read that the halogen bulbs have some sort of internal coating that reflects infrared radiation back into the filament and thus are more efficient.
