Hello - I am new to ADVR. I thought I'd share my scooters with you all. My '87 Elite 250 17,500 miles (engine swapped 1,000 miles ago for an engine with 6,000 miles) I got it last August. It is my daily driver. Here is my current project - an '87 Elite 150. I am going Skelly with it, much like Jedi's. Here is how it looked with I got it off Craigslist: Here is where I am now: I am having an issue with the rear brake cam. It is stuck open. I'll be updating as I work on it.
Wow I'm loving that Elite!! Seriously thinking of doing something similar to my CT, especially with the ammo cans. Very nice!!!
Spray with some penetrating oil and let it soak for a day or so. If that doesn't work, try some heat - a heat gun on high or a propane torch. Just be careful not to melt anything or yourself!
I really like the paint job on your 250. Did you paint it yourself? Looks like kind of a light olive drab. Any more pics?
We've always had good luck with PB Blaster, but that close to the brake pads themselves... :eek1 I've never tried it with that but for stuck pistons we usually dribble a bit of Marvel's Mystery Oil and let it soak in for a day or two, then try to break it loose with a rubber mallet. Doubtless you've tried this method a time or two already though, good luck!
I ended up getting it off. I let it soak for a couple of days, then threw a crescent wrench on it and smacked it with a baseball bat. Winning! I've got some stuff in the works and should be updating in a few days.
marvel mystery oil and try tapping it too loosen parts through vibration and racking any "rust welds".
Haven't updated in a while. Decided to complete strip down the 150 and get to work. This week should be full of updates.
Well, he's GOTTA have a seat! Hose clamps work wonders. Watch the corners on those ammo cans, they can have sharp edges. I'd hate to hear of you having to sing in the the soprano section after using too much brake. OUCH! Love the 2-fiddy and the other motor is looking awesome. That motor looks sweet!
Wicked! The engine looks NIIICE!!! I wish I had Painted mine, but on the other hand, There wouldn't really be a point since I'm gonna be putting all the panels back on... I think the fact you went out of your way to paint it will pay off in the long run. every time I see a Naked elite 150 i can't help but wonder what it would be like with the engine painted... Now I know!!
I'm assuming you unhooked the spring from the two brake pads correct? Because that would make a pretty big difference I'm sure!
+1 on the PB blaster. Yeah, dissimilar metals are a bad idea in this case, but I though there was enough clearance between the shaft and the housing to prevent this...
The brake cam I already got out a a while back. (See previous post about wrench and baseball bat). I am curious as to what kind of grease I should use when I put it back together. Here are some more updates. As you can see I am going with a tractor theme :dllama I am also curious if I should continue to use the exhaust that came with the scoot when I bought it. I sandblasted it today at work.
Wow, that is one extra ghetto lookin pipe! I would keep it just for the uniqueness, but on the other hand, It doesn't look like there are as many mounting points as there should be, I'd be afreaid of it putting too much weight on the manifold bolts
