    Hi Guys,
To protect my beloved KTM 990 Adventure R from thieves I developed a vehicle alarm system running from your own smart phone (Android).

    With this system you can:
    1. lock your bike - and get alerts when someone tries to move or shake it
    2. locate - see your bike's location on a map
    3. track - follow your bike location on a map
    4. navigate to your bike's location using "Waze" or any other navigation software installed in your phone
    5. Spy - get information on the thief

    * you will need to install 2 applications (more info in the starter manual)
    Get the manual from: http://www.watchdog.org.il/WatchDog_gettingStarted_en.pdf

    It's totally free!

Get the WatchDog alarm system from Google market:
    Client: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.abware.watchdog_client

    Agent: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.abware.watchdog_agent

    Hope you enjoy the system.

Reading the website...it appears 2 phones are required. One in your bike at all times. No thanks....

Here are some of the most common questions arise when working with WatchDog system.

What is the WatchDog agent device

It's a cell phone running Android 2.3 or greater and a watchdog agent software is running on it. The agent software communicates with the client software getting and sending commands and information. In order for the 2 devices (agent & client) to communicate you will need to put a sim card in the agent phone as well

    What is the client device

It's also a cell phone - your cell phone running android 3.0 or greater and a watchdog client software is running on it

Do I need internet connection for the system to work?

Yes. Both WatchDog client and agent applications needs to be connected to the internet in order to work fast and efficient. When no internet connection is available, the applications will switch to SMS messaging but it will cause the system to work much slower..

How do I connect WatchDog agent and client applications

It;s easy. When the WatchDog client first activated, it will show a welcome dialog asking you to enter your WatchDog agent phone number, then it will automatically establish a client-agent connection.

    How much does WatchDog costs?

Nothing. It's free. If you find it helpful, consider donating to the project.

So sorry guys. while copy - pasting the links they somehow the automatically changed...
Anyway regarding the phone attached to the bike - look at this like that: we need a black box with GPS, Accelerometer, Gyroscope and GSM which is also reliable, can hold in any weather, anti dust and that will not consume any energy from our bike's battery.
Most of all it must be very cheap...
I tried building one using arduino kits, Odroid, raspberry pi etc. they are all much more expensive and fragile.

We have tons of used and new cheap android phones. they have all the sensors we need built-in! so why not use them.
If someone can produce a better alternative I'll be glad to help implementing the Agent software on it.

I feel much more secure today when parking my bike anywhere I just press "Lock" knowing someone is watching it.

If you don't have 2 phones and want to try the system, simply install both software on the same phone (Must be Android 3.0 or higher) so you can get the feeling of how it works

I believe most of you will like it

    Cheers!

So, this does not have anything specific to KTM, right? This brings me to another of the things I've always wondered. I am on beamer land (yeah, the dark side) and it should be possible to have a cell phone always connected to the bike, that does what your app does, and can talk to the canbus at all times. That way, it's possible to get a digital readout of all faults, see the engine stats etc...

It definitely isn't easy work, but doable, right?

Pretty cool. Use a cheap "Obama phone" for the client and you have a very inexpensive tracking system!

You'd have to leave a phone in the bike, what happens when the battery runs out?

There's some cheap china made gsm modules that has the same function.

One thread is all you get in Vendors, not 3. Also, please do not post about this outside the Vendors forum and read the site rules and the rules for Vendors. Threads have been merged.
