Can someone remind me, the smr, and regular sm are different though, regarding tank mounting and seat, correct?

I remember awhile back asking if an se tank would fit on an sm, and got told it wouldnt, but I forget why.

Also dont remember if the smr, and sm tanks are interchangeable.

I believe the smr and se tank and seat are the same. 3.7 gallons. The sm tank, 4.7? gallons, fit either the smr or se but you need to change the seats out too.

you are correct, the smr and sm only differ in the seat and tank and the smr has a bit stiffer suspension.

The SMR and the SE also have a different subframe than the SM so it's more involved than simply swapping the tank and seat.

Sounds like nobody knows for sure if either of these tank options will fit the SMR.

I emailed that powercell guy about his tanks before, and to fit his tank onto an se, you need the tank and the seat.

What Ive never figured out is how an sm seat would fit onto a se if the subframes are different, but it wouldnt work vice versa.

I have an adventure frame and a sm frame, and there is minor differences for the tank mounting, but its not really a whole lot.

That being said i dont really know how different an adventure frame is from a SM either!

As I said before - any tank that fits an SE will fit an SMR. The stock tanks and seats are the same.

In short, IF you get this particular tank, you will have to switch to the "SM" (sans "R") seat.

It's easy to see the difference if you compare the shape of the Corbin seat for the SMR to the same for the SM:

Thanks mdbr. This bike does make me feel special, I never expected the engine to run as it does:eek1 Just ordered the 690 wind screen. Didn't think I would want a shield being that the GS will be my longer distance bike but it is really easy to go +80mph on the SMR and the wind blast is crazy on the body.

The Aqualine fits with the SMR or SE seat and it also fit with both the Renazco and Bill Meyer seats (one built on an SMR seat pan and the other built on an SE pan) that I had. Powercell's seat wasn't available then.

Did you have that 7.9 gal monster? Was it too big/bulky/ugly?

I was ready to pull the trigger until someone suggested it would be hedious on the SMR.

I have a friend who had an SE and he had installed the 7.9 tank.

One day while he had his bike apart for maintenance, I pulled my SMR down to see if his tank would fit. It did, and I also tried both my Bill Meyer/SMR seat and his SE/Renazco seat and everything went together. It didn't look bad and if I'd kept the SMR I'd have put the big tank on it.

Long time, no post. A back-surgery has kept me off the bike for quite a while. I'm once again ready to ride the best bike ever built.

To the point: My oil sight-tube is cracking again(previously replaced under warranty with the new KTM tube). I'm done with replacing it and have an ADV dipstick in hand for conversion. Perhaps my search skills suck(they do), but I cannot find the bolt size I need, to plug the holes once the sight tube has been eliminated.

Does anyone know what size bolts I need(diameter and length)?

I understand they must be longer than stock, but by how much?

Excited to be riding again soon, I hope.
