Was that in the northeast somewhere? I'd love to find some deep, fast sand to practice on in our neck of the woods.
You're asking for trouble when using Red High Temp RTV. It outgasses acetic acid gas and does not play well at all with ethylene glycol or engine oil or gasoline. You're asking for trouble when using ANY RTV that has a vinegar smell when it comes to fuels, oils, or coolants. Dirty
Quite often not the case. The Permatex Ultra Black specifically plays very nicely with gasoline. On the other hand, all pretty much irrelevant. The OP is asking about sticking protective covers to the casing. It should not come into contact with oils and gasoline, and if it did, that would be the least of my worries. As an aside, I have my protective covers firmly stuck in place with high temp RTV silicone

You hooked my curiosity ... I'm back from the garage and all Permatex products I have there clearly stipulates: "Incompatible with Petroleum Products" except the grey one: "Permatex Moto Seal 1" which is a "removeabe" temporary gasket mainly for 2 strokes motors that you open frequently anyway. The high temp tube (red), the sensor safe tube (blue) have this warning written on, but if I open Permatex's web page here : http://www.permatex.com/documents/tds/Automotive/81160.pdf There is no mention about petroleum compatibility ... Can read also this about "Fuel Resistant Gasket" http://www.permatex.com/products/Au..._resistant_gasket_dressing_flange_sealant.htm I find this confusing ... I'll stick to what's written on the tube ... Paul Jr 8
I have never wanted to sale it but I was rearended Friday night and I think it may be totaled. How do I determine a fair price? It is an 08 690e it is stock except for a uni foam filter flatland skid plate and custom made luggage rack It has around 13k miles on it and is in good shape with all service work done. I have looked for similar bikes forsale but have not found one which leads me to think the NADA value would be incorrect due to the unavailablilty of the bike. I want to keep it or have it replaced. How do I ensure I get a replacement.
Ptex Ultra Black is fine-plays well with fuels and oils, just as the Loctite Black RTV's. I've never run across an acetoxy cure Black RTV. Team-I just picked up a '12 690 Enduro yesterday from the Pensacola, Florida area with less than 900 miles on the clock and am itching to de-smogify and get rid of that nuclear reactor of a tail pipe. Going to be putting my beloved '07 640A on the market in the next few weeks once I get her cleaned up. I've spent the weekend reading through this entire thread and am taking copius notes. When I got back to the house last night I rode her around the neighborhood and kept saying....HOLY F#CK this thing is a freakin' BEAST!! I am floored the way this bike surges once if falls into the higher rev range and wants to pick up the front end. HOLY MOLY!! Should I go the Twin Air foam filter with RR cage, or the Uni double pod filter? Asking because I haven't picked up on the consensus of the group-everyone seems pretty evenly mixed. The Q4 will be the route to replace the stock inferno can. It still seems a remap is in order once the filter and can change are made-am I wrong? Akra Map flash at my friendly local KTM dealer? Or should I go another route? Thanks much for everyone's patience with the 690 Noob questions. Dirty
Hay I had a similar problem last year. My insurance company gave me $3800 to fix my 08 690 with 15k on it (or so). I thought there might be other problems with the bike and they said any more then that they will write it off. I am not sure what I would have got for the bike if it was but the broker said there are not many on the market. If it is a write off go online and find as many 690e as you can and tell them this is the price of a similar bike. You can try and buy back the bike from them also if it is a write off, but they might never be able to register it again. All I have to say is never take there first offer fight fight for every penny you can get out of them, it might take some time but worth it. Good luck
The Remus brand (Austrian) seldom gets mentioned on this site but is a great exhaust system. Remus can be accessed via MaxMoto's site, i.e., maxmoto.com and specific product info on the 690 can be found at the following link: http://www.remususa.com//WebRoot/St...020_Enduro_0020_ab_0020_Mod_002E__0020_08.pdf I believe their system also fits the 2012's. I have a 2010 with the Remus headpipe (stainless) and the Remus slip-on (titanium). Very high quality. The headpipe has great welds that hold the stock heat guards in place and also has a power bulge. FYI if you replace the headpipe you will need a new crush washer at the exhaust port. Remus claims, via their dyno chart, that their system gives you 2.3 more peak hp. I have the Akra mapping and the bike runs flawlessly however I think a 2012 will need a different map. Price for the full system has gone up from the $800 that I paid 2.5 years ago to $1,132. Certainly a significantly cheaper alternative if you are considering a full Akrapovic system. I also have the twin-pod KTM foam airfilter (likely sourced from Uni). Remember when changing out your air filter to only use 1 foot pound of torque on the two airbox cover securing bolts. If you use too much torque you can pull the brass imbeded thread nuts (or whatever you call them) out of the plastic airbox body. If you just want a slip-on then I am sure the Q4 will work just fine for you. BTW the factory nuclear reactor weighs 11.2 pounds and the Remus titan slip-on weighs in at 3.96 lbs. Quite a difference.
Amen to that. When my bike got stolen, insurance company tried to lowball me with a shitty offer. Even tried to say it was worth less as I had replaced the more expensive stock exhaust with an aftermarket part. Needless to say, so hard language followed and in the end the saw the light and pretty much came over to my side.
Can anyone out there in Europe help me out? This part is out of stock all across North America until November. If someone could track down the rocker/pin I would gladly pay you for your time! P/N: 75036061044 & 75036056000
I can check with my dealer. Alternatively, give bikersjersey.com a shout. Know they've shipped to Asia without problem before.
Today I was finally able to pull the fuel line at the injector. It isn't getting any fuel at that point. I guess I'm going back in..... This time I'm going to test the pump outside the tank to make sure it is even working despite hearing it prime when the key is turned. More fun with the 690 than I thought I would ever have....
I just went through the exact same thing. Look back over my posts on this thread for the past couple weeks.
I remember seeing some of your posts. How did you eventually get the lines in the tank to no kink? The lines are so fragile and bendy it seems like they wouldn't kink at all....
I found it easier to put the pump assy in the tank with the regulator out and then slide the regulator in I just slid the reg out a couple inches and the pump seemed to go in much easier. OR maybe I was just holding my mouth right .
