Love it. Outside its -19 with the windchill.
Inside...

We sometimes wonder what our neighbors think when it is two degrees and our windows are open.

To be fair, that's in the hallway above the register. The rest of the house varies from 85 to 75.

Too warm for me! Don't want to be sweating in my leopard skin slippers. :eek1

13°F here near Albany this morning and house stays plenty warm with the 1978 Earth Stove going strong. My wood shed is emptying out at the rate of 1 wheelbarrow per day, but it sure keeps the house warm.

I just bought a house with 2 fireplaces with one being an insert. I really want to use them, especially when it's this cold but I have no clue how to buy wood or what the maintenance would look like. Anyone have any good websites that I could educate myself with?

This is how we get ours.










Burn hot and keep the flue clean are my only suggestions.
A cord is 8'x4'x4' know that if you're buying it.

Not that cold here, but the house is warm and I haven't turned on the heat yet this year, my fireplace insert woodstove is heating the whole house.

Don't use the fireplace, use the insert and buy another one. The fireplace is a good way to burn lots of wood and not warm the house

Wish I could do that, but I'm on my own and don't have the truck for it. What does burn hot mean? How do I know I'm getting hardwood and not softwood. (Don't send this one to the JM section, lol)

I wonder where he is tonight, and if he'll make it through another winter.

Just fed those freeloadin' horses some extra tonight, everything's still runnin' here - bitter Montana-like cold.

Growing up we had to of those Frontiers heating our house. One on each level. My dad spent countless hours keeping those things stoked to make sure our home was heated. By the time I moved out of their home I must have helped cut and split 50 cords of wood. Funny how much I hated that chore as a kid but actually really enjoy it now (woodstove in the shop)
