I got this evening the two side stand relocaters made by a friend Mike who is a tool maker at an engineering firm, as you can imagine the quality is excel lance. The plates are made from 6mm steel and are 439g. We looked at different scenarios from longer bolts into the case so effectively it becomes a brace and isolating the case mount points completely. Welding studs, threaded studs and countersunk. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=713485&page=3 Post 44. At the moment this is for the SE, if enough interest I will make one for the Adventurer to accommodate the adventures skid plate[/FONT], a UK guinea pig will be needed, please PM me if you're interested, I live in Dorset. Guys I'm not trying to compete with other makers out there, this is my creation as an engineered solution for me. But if there is interest enough, say 20 or so I can have a batch made up, if not, I'm happy either way. I estimate, talking to Mike, £40 quid per kit, making it worthwhile for him, but hopefully it will be less. All I need to do now is powder coat or paint. This is a test piece just to find the best stud, countersunk solution.
The best solution IMO kit. I.e countersunk. The shark fin sits in the void in the frame under the foot peg to give added rigidity I will bolt up tomorrow on my SE and take a pic.
Very nice, Charlie...very nice. Looks like a pretty solid piece of protection. By the way, all this work (on your part) will not serve as an alibi to the looting. Everyone's still gonna' want to know where you got the money for that brand new 50" plasma... Who's your buddy?...who's your pal? .
If I'm correct, the mounting points are identical to the BDCW bracket. Good: the choice of material. Still the lack of second moment of area in the dimension this type of brackets are stressed occupies me.
Cheers, its far more rigid and stronger by volume and material than an ally one and has an additional mounting point. The design also has a fin to help prevent secondary rotation moment.
Hi if you need someone to try out this bracket on a 990 ADV in the UK let me know, I'm in the north east but have relations in Dorset that i need to visit :) Regards Stuj
]Thanks for the offers to be Adventure guinea pig, the design as it is will fit the Adventure as is, as the mounting points are identical to the SE, i.e. frame, engine layout are the same. All I will need to do is fit a plate to an adventure, mark and measure the material that will need to remove to accommodate the Adventure skid plate, which will be minimal and won’t affect the strength but will use two mounting points instead of three, but the design was intended to prevent rotation in the event of a hard hit and damaging the generator case cover. This will also be suitable for an SE with a Tourtech skid plate. If enough interest I will go ahead and have a batch made up, SE and Adv, but I'm not doing this as a business prospect, just offering to help out fellow inmates, Ive paid for mine. It was heat painted today so hopefully will install tomorrow and I'll take some more picks.
I'm interested in one for my SE if you go ahead with production. Let me know how you get on. Cheers Trent
Painted. But not completely dry and hard, oh well. Adventure, SE with aftermarket sump guard. http://www.advrider.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=301764&d=1321987044
Ok pictures make it completely clear now. Countersunk bolts are 10.9 steel. What is the material class of the other bolts?
