At school we did the ball in the box on a CNC mill and had jaws that held the ball on the last side when it broke lose. I would have done one but was too busy making parts for a chopper shop to pay my way through.
^^ That's not even SHOOTING anymore. It's like building a computer... **yawn** Give me some iron sights and a steady hand thanks.
oh,I forgot to mention, I'm going to use it for a 3 inches target @ 200 yards. You hit that with iron sights, I'm going to use my gun rest.
Didn't say I could hit anything, just that it's not really that much FUN when you the steady hand out of the equation. It's like... rolling a bowling ball down a ramp at pins. No thanks.
when you hit something that you can't even see with your eyes is always fun.. at least for me! I also enjoy iron sights, but as long as I can make the target more than 50% of the time.. PS. a gun rest is also a very helpful tool to sight a scope.
3 inches at 200 yards with iron sights is very easy for a decent shooter. In NRA High Power competition the range goes out to 600 yards. In the National Matches at Camp Perry the long distance shoot is 1,000 yards. This is all with iron sights.
I was going to add something like this, but didn't want to sound like a braggard. My favorite shooting is done at 200 yards with open sights on my 10/22 at a 3" square steel we have set up. No rest. I'd love to say that I nail it all the time, but I'm better than 50% in standing position, about 85% in prone. I call it my poor mans 45/70 buffalo shoot.
two H&R's ? I also have two.. one in 17HMR (in the pic. with the rest) and one in 45-70. GREAT guns, they are solid and indestructible.
I bought a ruger pellet gun with iron sights and a scope to teach my girls to shoot. Need to sight the scope first and figure out BZO.
A rest, and yours is nice BTW, comes in very handy for working up loads and sighting in etc whether you use iron sights or a scope. And, they are a great help regardless of a person's shooting ability.
Yep....2 H&R's. I have several other guns as well and just today bought a Nagant revolver. Russian made in 1927. $99.99. 7.62X38R. unusal round and gun.
25 years ago I made this mailbox post from 3 clapped out sets of chains and sprockets from my '75 Z1B Kawasaki. I've had to replace the box several times but, the "post' is hanging in there. Funny , because when i put it up I had several people say it wouldn't hold up to the wind.
why not?? wind ain't gonna affect that much as there's not much for the wind to catch. (no big flat sides) however....if something large ever hits it..... GREAT JOB!!!
First attempt at a prosthetic... Saved this little guy from the cats a few months ago. He had a broken wing and leg. He's getting better- can fly but doesnt like to go very high or far yet. He hobbles around though because of the way his leg is twisted. Made a foot out of two foam stars and some twist ties. He can move a LOT faster on the ground with it on, but doesn't like it much... Probably more hassle than its worth but I had to give it a try. Pics from his afternoon walk:
