I'm still looking for a good and reasonably priced oil filter cover adapter, then I will plumb the frame for oil by welding in a few small threaded bungs. Thomas Berglund, Dakar Racer has a nice one for sale in his Berg Rally kit but it's very pricey and with Euro to US shipping was just a little too much for me at the moment. Maybe if I could get Twin-Air to sell me just the oil adaper in this kit... anyone have friends there? http://www.twinair.com/usa/news/150-twin-air-new-unique-oil-cooling-system
On some of the 690's they have a oil sensor (or that is what I think it is). I was planning on utilizing this as the supply take off. Just a thought...
The Berglund Racing oil cap adapter. No fixed pricing yet, maybe after he runs this years Dakar. Estimated $300 to $350 USD plus Euro to USA shipping. http://www.husabergrally.com (site runs better in Chrome)
I had a couple ideas...a) tap into the case b) tap into the oil fill port c) tap into the oil drain port. What rainy city do you live in?
KTM 690 part below (from KTM Talk) Year/Model: 2012, Component: LUBRICATING SYSTEM Item #: 13 Part Number: 76038041000 Description: OILFILTER COVER Retail: $28.70 Your Price: $24.40 (15% discount)
Cyborg, could you not have the inlet and outlet for the twin air cooler fitted inline on the chromed oil line down the front of the motor. No mechanical knowledge here re this so I am happy to declare my stupidly now. Can someone explain how the Berglund Racing oil cap adapter works as far as oil flow direction etc? Is the standard oil filter still used or is there a specific type of one used?
I sent Twinair an email a few months ago asking if they would make one for a Husaberg and they basically laughed at me. My concern with this, and I have Zero mechanical skill or knowledge , is how do you ensure you are actually circulating the oil? Does the OEM system have enough pressure to flow the oil through this addition and still maintain pressure? I would think with a little inginuity this exact system could be made to fit a Husa.. maybe need longer hoses,,, but does it actually extend the life of oil? Does it increase the total ammount of oil in the system? I would bet that if 8 or 9 of us asked twin air to sell only the cap they would do it.
The cap would be very easy to modify. Buy an aftermarket one as a spare incase a rock or whatever happens to snap a fitting off.
Did anyone notice this: A variation on the underseat tank... there's another image in the image gallery at http://www.husabergrally.com Here's more: and
i saw that but i assume it would have to be used with the full rally tanks as it intrudes into the space where the back of the standard tanks sits, as they say its targetted at someone who wants a dakar rally spec'd bike
always beautiful until you are replacing your 3rd muffler.... I have received my 3 liter bash plate from Force....it needs a small modification as it was modeled on a 450 not a 570 and the filler neck is hitting a radiator hose....simple fix via a welder...will have back in a week...The plate is a stunning piece of work and will hold just a liter less than the subframe tank while keeping the weight very low..... BTW a 2 liter Dromedary bag fits perfectly in a Kriega US5 bag....then mounted on the rear fender...that half gallon is my solution for now.....
interesting idea, that under seat tank. i agree that it would probably need to be used in conjunction with an extra tank up front. the 70 degree bikes are already biased toward the rear weight-wise and only putting the rear tank on would lead to some strange handling issues. i know when i strap 8kg of camping gear in the same position on the bike it doesn't handle well at all and i need to figure out a way to get more of the weight forward.
I am in active email dialog with Twin Air right now. Their first response was "no" but when I pointed out the KTM/Husaberg similarities in oil filter caps they said they would definitely look into it and get back to me. I don't think they've ever even looked at or measured-up a Berg. :huh I also have the same questions about bypassing oil flow at the filter housing, but all the Dakar Rally FE450's do it that way too, Berglunds bike and the SafariBerg Oz race bikes IIRC.
The KTM and Husaberg part numbers for the stock oil filter cover are both 75038041200 so this should fit. I just measured the one on my 690 and it is ~29mm center to center of the bolt holes and they are exactly 180* across from each other. Don't know if this helps any, but they are only ~$12 so it would seem to me that it would be worth buying a stock one and tapping 2 holes (1/8" npt) and making one yourself. One dead center (supply) and one anywhere else (return) should do the trick? The 690 that has a built in pressure switch (2012) does use a different filter than those without and it has a hole on both ends of it instead of the earlier ones that have a sheetmetal end with no hole on one end. I'll keep looking to see if I can find a filter interchange to fit the berg.
