    Yeah. :lol3

The story on the rocker is that after I had it all lashed down the night before Phillip and I departed my wife took a look and said, "you are going to look like the Clampetts going up the trail -- all you need is granny's rocker!"

At which point she went into her vast storehouse of knickknacks and whatnots and came up with that miniature rocker.

It lasted until I crashed in a creek sometime after we left Atlantic City, WY.

So I went to swap the stock spring back in and didn't realize until I had everything out that I was missing the steel spring seat. At least the rear suspension has all been lubed now :lol3

Anyone got an extra stock spring seat lying around?

I've got the FCR installed by the previous owner and I haven't had any problems in the 10k miles since I got it a little under a year ago. Not sure if that helps since I've got limited experience, but I figured I'd chime in.

Well, I was worried because my DR was smoking on start up, thinking it might be burning a lot of oil. I just got back from a 1,200 mile trip to Big Bend and the official word is.......

    ......

..... less than 1/4 quart in 1,200 miles, including running at 65-70 mph on the highways for extended periods with a full load, even with 14th tooth ft. sprocket. So, while my brother's 08 KLR was swilling the oil down, the ol' DR did just fine! So, in my estimation, seeing that oil consumption was not a real problem, no reason to crack the top end open. Thanks for all the tips and info on this great thread.

Roger that. You did well! :thumb

I knew I would be paying more for luggage because I was buying new stuff from the vendors or manufacturers. Sometimes you pays you money and takes you chances... :lol3

I weigh 225 without gear or luggage. I have .51 eibach straight rate up front. And 8.1 eibach straight rate out back. It could be better but way better than stock & not too expensive. I would do it again.

At 300 lbs, you'll want the stiffest springs you can find. This means the .50 kg/mm springs up front, and the 8.3 in the back. Springs alone with fresh oil (and maybe heavier weight oil) will make a big difference. If you're willing to spend a few extra dollars, then Intiminators up front might be a good solution for you -- they're a little cheaper than Emulators and they're much easier to install, and if you're mostly riding street, then you're golden. If you were mostly going to ride off-road then the Emulators might be a better option. The only downside to Intiminators is that there's no way to adjust them. On the other hand, making adjustments to Emulators is not a simple task, but it can be done. A Gold Valve in the rear will also be a big benefit, but installing it also requires some effort.

And as luck would have it, I just happen to have a set of .50 springs for sale at the moment... PM me if you're interested.

Procycle sells the Emulators for $155.95. Intiminators for $209.95

Yeah. Emulators + springs are dearer than Intiminators.
But not if you weigh 300...

not sure what I was thinking when I wrote that.... I knew the Emulators alone were in the ~ $150 ball park.
