5 gallons of chocolate stout and 5 gallons of strong honey wheat beer are ready to go. Now I'm just hoping to finish the front end swap on my little DR in time for the event. If not, I might be borrowing a friend's plated Yammy 450. Either way, I'll be trucking beer down for you FFs.

As Young Ben pointed out to me yesterday, that bike was an 800S, this one is an 800ST.

Yep, I had an F800S. It was fun. The R1200S was more fun. But, like you GimpyDick, I like to ride long distances on a fun bike. The F800S and R1200S were fun for around town, but impractical for carrying crap or riding long distance. The clip on bars and (almost) lack of windscreen saw to that.

So, the F800ST should solve those little quibbles. It's my "little boy's" version of your big bad FJR.

Plus 50mpg will be nice again. I use my bike(s) for about 90% of my driving these days.

And yes, Scott, you can indeed borrow my tank for the trip, as long as you agreee to wrap it in 3" of bubble wrap and keep it that way for the duration of the ride ...

No, don't be confused, I still prefer my GS. But I simply don't trust her anymore. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't have the FJR.

For my old bones, the GS is too...lumpy...for long distance all-paved stuff. I love the capability to ride gravel or fire trails, but if I'm staying on the pavement (especially slabs), I want a suuuper smooth ride.

My GS is buttery smooth. Now I've only done 917 in a day on a GS, but I guess I dunno how being folded up on a psuedo sprotbile denotes comfort. Oh wait, that's right, you're tiny...

My GS (well, both 1100's and the 1200) were/are smooth as silk. Each to his own, but I can't imagine a bike I'd rather put long days on than my GS.

That is why I didn't open my mouth. That would have been 3 of us large guys saying the same thing. I love the looks of the bike. To bad ergos don't work for me.

For us 6+ footers, I think there is really only one choice for a comfortable long ride bike.

As I start to realize that I may have to do much more slab than dirt, I am now wishing I had picked up a GSA vice the GS. The extra 4 gallons is nice to have.

Just sayin'.
