Was able to download 40sec worth, but even in that short period the quality of the video from the ATC was obviously far worse than the 520. Can you get a photo of how you attached the 520 on the side car? I'm still amazed it isn't vibrating to death!
Sort of. I put it on to try and damp theoscillations at the end of the boom when it starts swaying around. At least that's the theory, but I am not sure how much good it does. I have tried it without and I had a black web cargo strap in place for the last video. I don't see much difference. I think some of that give in the boom damps out the vibrations and the bigger movements aren't as noticeable as the short, hard vibrations of a more solid mount. The videos were a little smoother with the big palmcorder out on the boom, even though it moved more than it does with the little Sony out there.
i like the vio pov.1.. here my test.... <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/sSTA0GzOaDg&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/sSTA0GzOaDg&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
Hi, Thats certainly some of the best product video I have seen,of all the systems discussed here and presented with YouTubes crappy compression! JR356
That looks very nice, couple questions since it was on a nice smooth street. Were you standing on the pegs? Are you running knobies or street tires? Also about the recording unit. How large of an sd card can it use? Does it run on batteries or does it have a rechargable battery? What format does it record in and how do you like the software included? Can you watch what it is recording on the view screen or do you have to stop recording to review film? Any critique on the likes/dislikes? Thanks
1) sitting on my rear, on a husky seat (2x4 sawhorse), camera mounted upper right on the helmet. im 6'1" 215 2) karoo dot knobbies... (see pic below) 3) it can use up to 2gb 4) 4 AA size batteries. i use rechargeable 5) it records video .AVI in mpeg-4, audio in mpeg-1 (isnt that divx?) . i use macintosh. so my imovie works fine ...lol 6) you can watch it live as it records, or just look at the "standby screen" hmmmm complaints. 1) i look around too much, so i want to mount the camera to the bike. the "loop" mode is where i keep it. i get on the bike, press record. it records on the 1 gb sd card (3 minutes) in whatever "loop" you have it in (im set @ 3 minutes). so its always recording. while driving if i see something, someone i want to remember then you press rec/tag on the wireess remote thats on my handlebars. then it "saves that "3 minutes". if you are at the end of a clip, say 2+ minutes it will record the next "clip" too. that way you arent having to rummage through HOURS of video and carry a fistful of sd cards. im a former cop and private investigator now. so i did my homework and really like the features. ive had too many tape problems to ever do that, and i like the fact this is water/shock proof. when you cobble together a cheap system, you get a cheap system. ill try and get some rough stuff this week.
Thank you for the reply. I like that setup but need to find a way to pony up $700. Look forward to seeing it perform off road!
pov 1 Gravel and some flat mtb trail. The pov1 is mounted on the frontscreen. Found out it was a bad idea due to vibrations. http://youtube.com/watch?v=lLHp2gMV2ac Pov1 rocks.

There's been a few things said about it in the forums,...here's my recent thread: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=307828
I used a waterproof Swann wireless home camera coupled with a wireless DVR that records MPEG4. In high definition, it's very good, even at night (infra-red) Swann wireless camera costs 100$ (with a wireless receiver), Wireless DVR cost around 250$, it has a 2.5" screen, can be programmed to loop, or scheduled to record at a certain time. The quality is up to par with GoPro. I'll post a link to Youtube.

The wireless infra-red camera (with receiver) http://www.radioshack.com/sm-swann-night-hawk-wireless-outdoor-camera--pi-2149814.html check ebay for cheaper ones. I keep it the DVR in my tankbag and I can see the action real-time, correct the angle etc. I use an electrified tank bag and plug in the right adapters, you can also use batteries (4 AA for the DVR, 1 9V for the camera). Sometimes when I have the car cables busy with my car, I use the AC home cables with an inverter, no prob. I'll post a link to Youtube. links to wireless camera and wireless receiver up above
I want to buy a helmet camera for my son's graduation gift.He would like to use it for his mountain biking. I would like anybody's suggestion for a good setup. I havent a clue what makes a good camera setup. I assume ruggedness is important. I don't understand what components are neccessary for the process to work; recorder, lense, dvd, cables etc? Any advice and or links woud be great. I want a nice setup since he might be loaning it out to dear old dad for dual sporting sometime:)
